Let me give it a stab. He was probably not far off a stone over weight at the time he got the call, as his proposed fight with McKenzie is a long way off, so was not in full training. But, he wanted the fight, title and greenback.

If he had admitted yesterday his real weight he would have blown his chance of giving it a go. In the end, it is better for him that he doesnt fight at the light heavyweight as he wouldnt have done himself justice, even if he had got all of that weight off.

if that is the case he needs to come out and explain why he lied. he also said he has passed the boards tests at the press conference.

Yeah he looked terrible to be honest. Really drawn around the eyes, noticed it immediately. He looked like someone that had spent 2 days in a sauna nevermind 2 and a half hours.

spot on. in fact how stupid was it for his team to let him try and do that. the boards rules are there for a reason to protect the fighters. the strict rules put in place by the bbbofc could have actually saved his life today thats not an over statement.

It's not just Bellew. It's the whole culture of the sport.

Both promoters and fighters think it's okay to make last minute pull outs and **** the fans over.

They don't seem to realise that these antics/disappointments really hurt the sport.

:deal How his trainer could let his fighter try and lose a stone in such a short space is beyond me.

I think it is obvious, he really wanted the fight, but his body was telling him the truth. I am not sure why he said he passed the board's tests at the presser - I would like an explanation of that as well.

What time was that presser at today anyhow. Warren said on Sky Sports News that the pole was due to arrive in the UK at 7pm, so that was some smooth turnaround time from presser, no fight, to replacement.

If it had been made at a catchweight, Cleverly doesnt risk his title and has the advantage of having a full training camp behind him. i would have preferred a catchweight. It is 100 times better than that Cleverly v euro no hoper.

You really are a prized bellend you Rob. Who the **** do you think you are? He owes nobody an explanation here barring possibly Warren. It's as simple as this.... he tried to make the weight, he didn't make the weight. Was a big ask as it was. Anyone who bought this on the chance Bellew could make the weight he should have had 8 further weeks to make and is complaining is the wanker here

you must understand why Cleverly did not take the catchweight. you have to respect the decision. the one person thats defiantly not at fault in all this is Cleverly.

I think we need to remind ourselves here Bellew tried to give the fans something they wanted. Thats why its hit people hard. But it doesn't take away from the fact he tried his best to make a fight extremely short notice.

Thats my read on it too. If Bellew admitted how far over he was yesterday then The Board would have killed the fight there and then, he told the lie to be able to at least try and somehow make the weight but couldn't manage it.

If nothing else it certainly livened up the press conference and sowed the seeds for Bellew-Cleverly at some point down the road.

nobody has ever said Bellew couldnt not make weight with 8 weeks notice. what has that got to do with it.

Bellew said he could make weight, he didn't. He said he has passed the tests, he hadn't, he said he was 6lbs over yesterday, he wasn't. But we don't need an explanation??

Honestly cannot see the fight happening now. This won't have a positive effect on his career.
