Could Joe Calzaghe even make it the distance with a prime Roy Jones?

Calzaghe would last.. But he would not win... I favor Jones Jr. and its not cuz Jones is American.. its because I've seen Jones fight.. and I've seen Calzaghe... both in their primes... both against the same level of opposition. and.. Jones looks beter.. more athletic.. more ring savy.. more defensively minded... PERIOD.. not saying JOE ain't great.. but against RJJ, he loses IMO

Jones was a hell of a fighter there is absolutely no doubting that, and respect to him for being a great fighter to watch entertaining fast etc
But to dismiss calzaghe like some do is not only disrespectful but downright idiotic
The guy was a fantastic fighter, fought Eubank to win the title Eubank a man many american fighters didnt want any part of, he took on a man seen by a lot of americans as the next coming of tyson in jeff lacey and schooled him and its all well and good calzaghe haters saying "ahh but jeff lacy has lost to this guy and that guy", the fact is he was NEVER the same fighter after calzaghe took all the belief from him.
Then took on a man many believed yet again had the skills to beat calzaghe in mikel kessler and once again calzaghe out boxed the challenger and took away his belief and has mikell kessler been the same since?
Calzaghe could never win with the haters, if he fought a young challenger like lacy and kessler he got labelled gutless for not fighting a known name, if he fought the likes of hopkins and jones they were over the hill.
I guarantee you though were calzaghe have gone on too long and had that one more fight say against someone with less skills than him but more motivation at that stage and then he lost, the haters would be hailing the victory as a great win against calzaghe who would be immediately elevated to status of great champ, you would not hear the words beat a washed up over the hill Calzaghe

 

if roy would have fought joe in the late 90s you would have had writers and fans calling for a "roycott" like they did with his other opponents. imo calzaghe always beats jones because joe would have never stepped in the ring with him unless there was no doubt he could win. got to protect that "O" and fool his fans into thinking he's great.

Prime Jones never stopped Toney or Hopkins so why would he knock Joe out? Fermin Chirino managed to go the full 10 rounds for ****s sake and he was knocked out by crap fighters many times.

 

He got in the ring with Hopkins and Toney but I read Calzaghe was too high risk and low reward for him.

That Chirino argument is a lame ass excuse as to why Jones wouldn't knock Calzaghe out. Calzaghe got knocked down by ****in Kabary Salem, so surely Jones would tear Joe's head off right? Going by your shitty logic?

 

Prime Jones was a great finisher. If he was in his prime when he knocked joe down, the fight would have been done soon after.
