So does Hagler really beat Leonard when you put it on mute?

I've heard over and over again that the fight looks to go Hagler's way when you watch it without sound. How many of you scholars of the sport have given this a go?

Hagler beat Leonard even if you jack up the sound all the ...even if you listen to the commentary with headphones on.

You're impervious to the crowd and biased commentary?

Yes...I have contempt for the commentators who are attracted to fluff and superficial **** like that which Leonard was offering. The business of scoring a fight needs to be done with the ultimate honesty and dispassionate objectivity. I think the judges and the crowd were overrating the shoeshine flurrries and the showbiz **** that SRL was putting out and ignoring the more solid but less showy and spectacular work Hagler was doing. Hagler's only errors were starting out too slowly and not being a southpaw throughout, instead of fighting the first 4 rounds as a rightie..also letting Leonard outnegotiate him in demanding 12 rounds instead of 15..that was perhaps his biggest mistake.
I still think Hag won a very close decision...at the very least, if you make a case for disputing a win, he at least earned a draw.

Round by Round Leonard close but clear, the thing is most have a bias against Leonard and see Hagler as more of a man's man with his blue collar image

Fight could've gone either way regardless. One thing is certain, you do NOT win a round based on last 30 second flurries unless you seriously hurt a guy or knock him down which SRL did none of the above. The overall work is what wins a round.

There's several criteria - accurate effective aggression, clean punching, ring generalship and defense.

Saying Ray just won on flurries is bull****, he threw serious punches and outlanded Hagler, Hagler may have been the effective aggressor later in the fight but still got outlanded some of those rounds where as Leonard dominated the early rounds and built up a lead

Hagler was robbed in Vegas...Marvin won the fight..Leonard did nothing...he flurried in the last 15-20 seconds of each round....then why not just have 15-20 second rounds?...
    lousy decision...

This fight marked my transition from mainstream to hardcore fan.

What I mean is about 5 years ago I became a hardcore boxing fan and this was the first classic fight I chose to watch, score and analyse.

I watched it with no sound and scored it a draw. There is almost nothing separating them in this fight

No, it was close but Leonard won that fight by atleast 2 points i think. The 'only flashy innefective flurries' wrongly winning rounds **** is just some bollocks no personality hipsters grasp at. Leonard was clearly outboxing Hagler at several points in time during the fight. And he deserved the victory.

I've sat down and scored it a few times, sound on, sound off, different commentary teams.
I always have Hagler winning - but only by 1 point or 2.
He just did more effective work.

But it's too close to call it a robbery.
