Let's say a prime Conteh vs the Bernard Hopkins from the Tarver fight. How would you see this going down? My opinion keeps changing but I think Conteh may take a pretty close decision, even though I think Bernard would have made life very difficult in there
If Bernard was one for Complaining for Deemed infringements, I think Conteh would give him plenty to complain about, at his best Conteh's skills, speed, Boxing Ability, and Stamina, were such that he could certainly match Skills with Bernard, and be in contention on the scorecards, its when perhaps deadlock starts to get broken that swings it Contehs way for me, - Out comes the Venom, Conteh had a Spite to him that bred a bit of Caution in opponents, Bernard may of had some legitimate complaints about Careless Headwork along he way, As the fight goes on i think that Conteh Venom, Allied to his undoubted Skills, Gets him past a Bernard perhaps forced to conentrate on Defence, - Think about it, Yaqui Lopez gave Most who fought him Life & Death struggles. Saad, (x2) Galindez (x2) he Hammerd Rossman (sady for Alvaro, before he won the title !) And when ringworn, still gave Superman Scott (in Rahway) and Mike Spinks Hellish encounters, - and Yet a Rusty, Conteh, with Right Hand problems, Jabbed Yaqui Silly, in having the Easiest Evening with Mr Lopez. - A two Handed Single Minded, Conteh, before the Night clubbing, Hand and Manergial Troubles would i think a bit too lively for Bernard, - Those 70's Lightheavies, on their nights, were a very talented bunch, and Conteh, for Awhile, was right in amongst them.
Conteh....this topic was on a thread not too long ago BTW...and i say Conteh would win a clear decision...over 12 or 15.
Conteh on points. For one he is bigger. Two he is much more dedicated to his left jaband pops out his left hand almost incessantly, keeping it out to set things up and to keep his opponent busy and occupied on it. How many times have you seen a Conteh opponent fall for the left hand feint? Its because he is always working that jab. Hopkins is at his best when hes fighting an opponent who he can shut down offensivly. With Pascal, Tarver, Pavlik, Trinidad etc... Hopkins was able to shut down their offence and push them back. It would be a much harder task with Conteh as Conteh would be pecking with that left jab and can box front foot and back. I really don't see what B-Hop can do to shut down Conteh's offence. I'd take a Conteh points win on a technical decision after an accidental head clash.
Whoever wins (probably Conteh), this has the makings of a tragedy (and not the type of tragedy where someone gets hurt)
Wow, Hopkins decisioning Jean Pascal has sure made me think he would do the same to John Conteh or actually...atsch
