Round 10

Martin comes out hooking intently, and just steps around slowly with a wide stance to draw Huerta in. Martin moves his head out of the way of Huerta's tired jabs and hooks him hard in the jaw...over and over. Huerta - I don't know what he's trying to do. He's basically reaching with both gloves as though he were trying to strangle Martin. Those aren't even punches, they're reaches. All push, no snap. Martin is dancing around, hopping in place, hooking Huerta in the head. Martin bends over as Huerta tries to drop a 1-2 on him and everything just rolls off Martin's shoulders. That is, until Martin is caught straight up with a short right, hands down. Martin pumps both arms down low, hooking Huerta in the body and bouncing him away as Huerta tries to unload headshots.

Yeah, it's crazy. Martin was in sleep mode, and getting hit with nonsense. Double jabs and rights together.

Then out of nowhere he drew the line in the sand and just started gaining speed, and soon he was messing Huerta up.

He was beaning Huerta pretty good tonight, although not all of it was crisp. Some of those crazy hooks...man...he's lucky he's such a defensive wizard because those would have left a lesser boxer ridiculously open.

Our "Solo Boxeo Extra" bout features Manuel "Tino" Avila.

This dude has shined in all three of his professional bouts so far (all on televised Golden Boy cards).

 

He's up against Jesse Padilla in a super bantamweight 4-rounder to close the show.

 

Round 1

Solid start from Avila, jabbing into Padilla's face and dropping rights to the body when in range. Padilla tries to throw his arms in and Avila just swats him aside and gets back to his technician's approach. Jabbing and cutting the ring off. Padilla is cracked with a right and almost put in a corner. Avila is hanging back, making Padilla lunge and miss and popping him with jabs. Nice hook by Avila as he spins Padilla.

Round 2

Padilla reaches with a lazy jab and gets demolished. Avila is ready for him, having his movements completely cased out and drubbing him with right hands that rock him back before Padilla has even gotten halfway through his wind-up. Avila jabs a bit more warily as Padilla takes to swooping down, in and up leading with his head a bit. Avila gets Padilla on the ropes and tags him with several rapid shots, as Padilla tries to roll to safety by twisting his body around. Weak jabs from Padilla. Sloppy overhand right. Avila basically ignores all that and waits for spots to land his own sharp jab.

Round 3

Tino has his jab fixed on Padilla and is landing it on the regular whenever he's close enough. Padilla has turned southpaw and is now pushing out right jabs as weak as the left jabs he was unfurling earlier. It's like a casino dealer's push of the rake. Just no speed or urgency. Avila chases him down and flurries at him. DAMN. Avila blocks a jab with an open palm with his right glove, and then blocks the followup right cross with the same palm, just sliding it over a few inches. Their difference in hand speed is that dramatic. Avila gets Padilla in a corner and knocks him around a bit, and Padilla goes a little wild trying to flail his way out. Avila gives him some space, backing out. Padilla slaps away and hits absolutely nothing with Avila not even raising his hands up.
