Not at all, you need to step back and watch it again, most are DeGale haters so going with the popular view. I will watch it again though aswell, as there were 2 rounds in the fight i wasnt 100% on but gave to DeGale as he did more, but even if i gave them even or to Groves would still have DeGale by atleast 1 point. Groves basically did nothing in the last few rounds of the fight other than the 10th, was all DeGale, he won 3 of the last 4 clear for example and had Groves in trouble late in the 9th, a round he dominated even before he hurt him.
I had a feeling the majority of neutrals would have this view, i wanted DeGale to win but i scored the fight round by round fairly sitting next to a Groves fan who would call me on any bias etc. We only really disagreed on 2 close rounds.
Because he's arrogant and brash. He's exactly the type of personality that will not succeed in England without an all action style. Watching the fight on sky it was embarrassing listening to the commentators exaggerating everything Groves did as if he was putting on a technical master class when he barely landed a significant punch throughout the whole fight. Groves won this fight based on level of expectation, because he's a slugger and he fought a disciplined fight people were scoring the fight as if he deserved credit for it. Separate your opinions of their personalities from what they actually did in the ring and it was quite clear who won in my opinion.
Maybe, but Groves deserved it more. He executed his gameplan much better and was much more efficient in terms of punches landed to punches thrown. He didn't enter the ring with a superiority complex and didn't **** about when he needed to actually win a round. Both will go on to bigger and better things, which makes the rematch a massive cash-cow. A 10/10 Groves just about pipped a 6/10 DeGale, and that's not me being biased. DeGale will go further as a pro. Wonderful advert for the sport :rasta
wait a minute, why do you think that i hate degale? i'm a fan of both these guys. i didn't even want them to fight at this stage of their career's.it should of happened a couple of years down the road. also, i don't mind all the talk that degale gives. the ugly kid thing was a bit stupid, but i don't dislike him. degale was the big favorite going into this, everyone was writing groves off.... i just think that he should get the respect he deserves for proving everyone wrong. no bias from me here. but i will say this... degale is the more talented of the two, and will go to the top, whereas i don't think groves will. but he did deserve that decision.
Only time will tell who is the more talented. Skills alone dont make a great boxer. Degale has not had to get up from the canvas yet...will he be able to do so when the time comes?
:deal Everytime the commentary team said, "DeGale ain't doing much" I couldn't but think to myself, "well....neither is Groves?"
Yup, Groves did next to nothing the second half of the fight if you take away the good 10th he had, Darke and Watt were quite pro Groves tonight, any clear DeGale rd he "nicked"
Agreed I had it for Degale 115-113, there were a few close rounds and he had the crowd against him which probably cost him, in the end Degale will go further than Groves and he will kick himself for 'losing' he was too over confident hopefully this result will make him improve.
I am ****in pissed! How come I was told Degale was next big thing and he could beat Andre Ward and he is losing to Groves? Huh WTF!!
I think it was fair. I wouldn't have complained either way it went, but I think Groves won more of the early rounds where DeGale wasn't getting off enough, missing when jumping in and getting caught. However, DeGale was never hurt and even though this was close I think he easily has more potential than Groves. If Groves fights like that every fight he'll bore people and he won't get away it at the highest levels. Plus if he comes forward he'll get knocked out. Every time they had meaningful exchanges DeGale was getting the better of him and Groves definitely looked the more hurt/vulnerable at stages. I don't think Groves team will want a rematch now. Groves won't get away with those tactics again and they'll be less effective. Although Booth said in the post fight interview Groves could beat DeGale on the front or back foot, I don't see it and I think they know it. They'll use this for confidence in Groves and use this it as a platform. From a business perspective there is a lot of risk in a rematch at this point for Groves. If Groves fights again and get's beaten (which I think would happen) he's back to where he was. As is he'll get an easier route to bigger fights. DeGale will now argubaly have a harder route (although Warren is good at guiding easy routes to World titles), but I think he the potential skills to do it. Who's in his corner though, decent credentials? DeGales trainer wasn't giving much advice when it was clear the plan wasn't working and when compared to Booth it seemed Groves had the much better plan, which is why he won.
I had it for Groves 115-113. Either which way though, it was an extremely close and, by the later stages, very entertaining and tense bout. You'd think DeGale had been knocked out in the first round the way some are talking about him and his career! I'd love to see a rematch. I don't think that'll happen right away, but I would.
