Why didn't Ali rematch Foreman?

Its not only the weak excuses offered up, its the fact that they believe them gets me

 

He didn't want to rematch Foreman because the first fight destroyed his body physically and he was never the same again.

 

He got most of his facts wrong, so why wouldn't people prefer solid facts to having a poor memory?

The mandatory contender has to fight for the #1 spot now does he?

Thats not what i was getting at. Its the ones who complain about the heat and stuff like that. Ali fought in the same heat too:good

Well, they're just dickheads, we know that already. I was referring to the fact that Foreman's ****-poor excuses shouldn't mean he didn't deserve a rematch. The Young fight was bad match-making on King's part.

 

Lets just say that Jimmy Young beat Foreman way fairer than Muhammad Ali ever could , but nonetheless , the heat took its toll on the aggressive Foreman .

Do you not recall the critics saying pre-fight,that the Zaire heat was yet another reason as to why Ali would lose ? It's up to boxers to adapt to prevailing and changing conditions during a bout. Ali could,and George could n't. How the hell you don't think this was 'beating Foreman not as fairly as Young did' is beyond me.

 

cause of the ropes . An effective combination : the ropes allowed Ali to be relatively static (compared to what he would have had to do without them) , and to make Foreman miss easier and even take his punches better as a loose rope absorbs energy much better than a tight rope .
So it saved him movement energy and helped him in both avoiding and absorbing punches ("rope-a-dope") and the effect of the fatigue caused by this was magnified by the heat.


At least with Young no one could blame the ropes .

 

With all due respect, and this has been said on numerous occasions, you do not accumulate points by merely lying on the ropes absorbing punishment. Ali was ahead on points so he must have been hitting George a bit more than he gets credit for, dont you think

 

I agree, you do have a point, but george didnt do himself any favours staying out for so long. I think Ali had 4 fights in this time (i may be wrong here). Unless you mean a shot right away, which again could be argued in favour for but im not so sure George was right mentally for a good while after Zaire.I really can see both sides of the argument here, it the outlandish claims of the begrudgers that make me laugh (not yourself)
