Remember what Chris Eubank said about DeGale in 2009?

Chris Eubank told Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour that James DeGale will fail as a professional because he lacks the hunger to succeed.

Having picked up Olympic gold in Beijing, Degale’s star has continued to rise since he signed professional terms with Frank Warren on whose bill he will make his debut on February 28.

However, former WBO middleweight and super middleweight champion Eubank fears that he might struggle to fend off the outside pressures that continue to accompany his career.

"Stay away from sin, stay away from guests,” he told Bunce on Setanta Sports News on Thursday. “You have to fight, you have to spar. Gifts kill your hunger. Fame kills your hunger. Girls will destroy you.

“Fighters who have their own way all the time. They become white elephants. The best example of this is Audley Harrison.

"I hear James DeGale is getting a £1 million. I guarantee you he will fail. It robs your hunger. I fought Michael Watson. I wanted respect. I got up to carry on because I didn't have respect."

I'm amazed after Frank Warren has allowed lightening to strike twice. He had all these problems with Khan, & now it's happening again...

 

Eubank was on the money.

Amir Khan has 5 times the talent that DeGale has as well by the way and I'm not even a Khan fan.

Amir Khan clearly has trouble with punch resistance but at least he can punch properly himself. His footwork is also way better.

 

Has he really failed though? He has lost a razor thin decision to a good opponent

 

yes Khan does have a weak chin, but his ability is very good. he's that type of fighter that will lose in upsets, and then in the next fight beat a top ranked fighter that everybody would pick to beat khan. it's going to be a rollercoaster career for khan of ups and downs.

 

James degale fought the wrong style last night, he's supposed to use his reach and be on the backfoot, but instead came forward and got picked off at times because he lacked the lateral movement and lacked the footwork to close his opponent down. Degale should of been the fighter on the backfoot.

 

The thing is, DeGale and his team are still saying that George Groves isn't any good. How bad must James DeGale be then if he can't even beat an average domestic level opponent?

 

degale showed a lack of determination for me last night...he's awfully skillful, i still think so....but reading back what eubank said there he was right about degale

Well if last night didn't light a fire under his arse then nothing will.

 

Degale has the tools but not the mentality to succeed imo, it will be the downfall for him. He doesn't have the desire to win, not from what I saw last night. Groves wanted to win more, and was willing to dig deep, even once the going got tough in the last 3.

Degale isn't disciplined enough, his mentality has to be questioned. You can have all the skills in the world, but without heart you won't go no where.

 

Degale underestimated Groves! He needs to get out of Essex and stop chilling with all those muppets from the only way is essex! He was partying with them 2 weeks before the fight! Go to America and improve your weaknesses Chunky!

 

Not sure about DeGale but Groves desperately wanted that last night.

 

If you are a future great, like many idiots on here claimed of DeGale, you don't underestimate a quality opponent who has beaten you before. DeGale was pathetic - I'm not the same fighter I was back then. Yes you are, james. The exact same.
