degale won an olympic gold medal using his reach and long range combinations. he had a significant reach and speed advantage over groves. where were the 1-2-3 combinations and what happened to his jab after round 3?

i feel pretty stupid comparing him to andre ward after his performance. unless he steps up which im sure he's capable of i don't see him being competative at world level. thats coming from one of his biggest fans.

i feel he got a bit too over confident sometimes when a fighter is so assured of himself he dosnt realise the rounds are goin the other way and dosnt put his foot on the pedal like he should

yeah that played a massive part of it. he looked very tentative in the early rounds, to the point he looked lazy in there. not sure what his thought process was. maybe he thought he could just ko groves whenever he liked so losing rounds wasnt a problem. there were moments when he looked dominant and that was when he took risks and dug deep. dont know why didnt keep it up for the last few rounds.
shows why fighters should never feel entitled or over confident just because they have more talent than there opponant. unless you work hard you will come unstuck!

He expected Groves to come forward and be more aggressive giving more opportunities to counter with his superior strength and power. Groves just executed a perfect gameplan and Degale didnt have a Plan B. He also seems to fight mid range and stays mostly flat footed, Groves movement exploited this.

Still i think Degale won by a round or two, they had similar punch stats with Degale walking forward the whole fight and landing more power and doing more damage. But he never expected it to be as competitive as it was and didnt have any back up plan, still has the tools to come back stronger.

He didn't turn up last night. He was trying to brawl too much, he was on the front foot, but wasn't throwing. I think he was looking to hurt Groves too much.

DeGale will definitely come back stronger though. I've said it for months, he needs a big crash back down to earth for him to reach his full potential. Khan is virtually the perfect example.

he fought mid range in that fight which clearly wasn't working so why didn't he ***ht at long range and out box him. he's very capable as shown in the olympics.

I think its just how he's developed as a professional, seems happy to stand infront of opponents and make them miss then counter. Even fighting at range Groves still seems to match him in speed and had great footwork, Degale needed to impose his strength on Groves to do this i think he should have made it uglier. Jabbed hard and cut off the ring, risk taking shot to land his own.

He's been fed too many opponents that stand in front of him but can't punch or anything..... all British fighters are matched like that it seems.

Groves is the first opponent to move and make him miss. Groves has fought a wider range of styles, against punchers, boxers, sluggers.... he's had to get off the floor too.

I expected DeGale to knock him out in the mid-rounds, but Groves showed a lot of discipline to stick to the plan. Boxing off the back foot isn't natural to him, he prefers to plant his feet and throw bombs.

    Defail corner team sucks.

  15. If Degale had boxed at range he would have lost every round. His game is going forward and stalking. I don't understand how so many people don't seem to have noticed that. Degale will never make it because he doesn't have enough power. As Chris Eubank said: I guarantee he will fail.
