Zsolt Erdei: What lineage compares for being blatantly shunned...?

    At least all but shunned, ignored...Getting utter contempt shown for the utter pointlessness of its existence, for so long a period of time? Does anything come close to this phenomenon of Ring magazine basically taking the validity of lineage in the public eye and putting it in the hands of two other fighters to square off for? Because, it seems like that's basically what they did to him and the top guys have gone with it. Erdei has been a footnote for so long as "the'' linear champion it's actually incredible. What comes close to this in boxing history?








    Also, congrats to the new top dog of the division---BHOP.

    Erdei retired for a while so the lineage ended. Debatable if we got a new one yesterday.

    But yeah, Erdei was ignored for most part of his career. Not his fault or the rings but his promoters, Universum, who had no confidence in him. Sadly, ´cause he was good enough to hang in with the Dawson-Tarver-Johnson-Woods-whatever thing.

    He even got a mention as the linear title holder on HBO last night, so somebody out there stills figures him for it. I hadn't heard he'd ever retired, just that he went to cruiser and picked up a strap. I'd hoped before hearing him mentioned last night as the linear champ that the move in weight would end things, like a sick dog getting put to sleep.

    When they mentioned Erdei with the "other" top guys, it sounded like it was the most forced way possible. Like Kellerman's tongue didn't even want to speak the words. Anyway, I'm not saying he wasn't/isn't a good fighter, some of my favorite fighters get or have gotten/are getting into title hoarding situations for a variety of reasons. I just find Erdei being lineal and the whole situation to be bizarre and distasteful.

    Hm, he said before his cw stint that he retires afterwards. But a while later he said he wants to fight again, with a new, US, promoter.

    It is indeed, I don´t think it´s the fault of the ring or Erdei. It´s Universum´s fault.

    I support the Ring's decision here actually. Maybe I didn't make the thread's intent clear, I'm waking up after a night of a small night of boozing and only a few hours sleep. :lol: I'm only curious if there are any other instances of this type of lineage. Where the linear champion goes into basic obscurity, at least when compared to all these other names in his division and nobody even wants to bother about his title because Ring has more credibility with the people in the instance. And the fighters struggling to the top seem to see it that way too, as do the broadcasting networks, apparently. I'm not familiar with anything else like it happening.

    He was forced to do that. He was WBO Champ and Brahmer was WBO interm Champ. Universum knew erdei would whip his ass and wanted the ethnic German Brahmer as Champ so they forced Erdei to CW and even though he was only 178lbs he won the belt in a FOTY type fight vs Fragomeni.

    He's in the US with a american promoter (not sure who) but he's ****ed now that he doesn't have a belt he's never going to get a shot against a top LHW

    edit - he's 3 in the WBA and 4 in the WBC so hopefully he can get an eliminator fight soon. He's 35 so no time to spare.

    The fight with old Fragomeni was that good? I might have to add that on my to-watch list.

    Erdei lost twice to Garray taking a beating in both fights and got gift decisions that his own fans boo'ed, his 'lineage' is also very debateable

    Yes, it was. Erdei gave up 20+ pounds, couldn´t train properly because he was ill - lying in bed the whole week before the fight - outboxed Fragomeni for the first 4 rounds, gassed and then slugged it out with him for the rest of the fight and got the better of the bigger man. Awesome fight and great performance by Erdei which IMO proves without doubt that he would have been right in the mix with the other lhws if he would have gotten the chance to fight them. F*ck Universum.



    The first fight was close and debatable. The second one not. In both fights Garay did more but Erdei showed the better defence and landed the cleaner punches. Depends what you like. His lineage is only debatable if your name is PowerPuncher or that luc-guy.

    Both were massive home town decisions 8-4, they weren't close, don't give me that BS bodhi I saw both fights Garay was robbed blind easily outworking, outlanding and beating up Erdei. Erdei was never put in with anyone resembling a top fighter after those losses

    His lineage is very debateable because Maske wasn't a top 2 guy

    Garay>Erdei

    How did I miss this BS :lol: Universum protected Erdei from top10 fighters after they saw him getting hammered in the Garay fight, no doubt

    Erdei isn't lineal, never was. The lineage (based on 1 v 2) jumps from spinks to jones (after beating tarver) then it goes jones, tarver, johnson, tarver, hopkins, calzaghe then jumps to hopkins (after last night)

    Well...that's the Ring lineage. CBZ would disagree about the actual lineage.
