B-Hop breaks record... and makes Hopkins-Calzaghe debate look even more ridiculous!

He fought calzaghe in his prime and lost, he still ranks higher than calzaghe though

 

I was a big Calzaghe fan and I wouldn't have tried to argue he has a better career resume than Hopkins. I wouldn't have done it even before last night. I was glad to see Joe step it up in his last couple of years, but overall considering the level of talent he had he actually underacheived a bit compared to what I think he could have done had he not been so cautiously managed.

Hopkins deceisivly won last nights fight, which shows any excuses of him being finished when Calzaghe beat him were bull****. I thought Calzaghe won pretty comprehensivley myself, even if you thought Hopkins won you must acknowledge is was close, so people should give Calzaghe more credit than they do for making a fight with such a well preserved veteran close enough to be a justifiable win or at worst a close loss.

 

While Hopkins is higher on the ATG list you have to give credit to Joe. Calzaghe still beat a very good Hopkins and made him look old at times.

 

The great Hopkins announced that he would never be beaten by a white boy, and as usual, his prediction was correct. Hopkins won the fight, but the great hype boy got the decision.

The Calzaghe fans who delude themselves thinking Calzaghe is even deserving of being on the ATG list are like the old Jefferies fans who actually believed he was greater than Jack Johnson. Their motives for supporting Jefferies are the same as their motives for supporting a hype like Slappy white. 110 years later and things still remain the same in some fools minds.

Hopkins is always greater than Calzaghe at every level.
As repeatedly proven factually, statistically, artistic, tactically and economically, true!

Just think; Hopkins is not through yet.

 

They're fights that can go either way...I am not going to argue about who you scored it for, but I love when people try to dispute it and pretend that it was clear for Hopkins.

 

Calzaghe has no resume. None.

 

I don't think anyone really says Calzaghe has a great legacy. He only has two things in his favour: One, that he didn't lose to opponents like Taylor and that he retired undefeated, whereas Hopkins has several losses and draws. Secondly, one of those losses being to Calzaghe.

Could you argue Calzaghe beat better fighters over his career? I don't think you can. Has he achieved something like Hopkins has, by being the oldest champion ever? His undefeated run is close, but no. Was he the better fighter? Debatable.

Last night actaully helped Joe's Legacy as well. His win over Nard can't be ignored but Joe definitely ddin't get the very best Hopkins when they fought.....but he got the nod in a close fight.

 

To be fair, Calzaghe was past his prime too. I think Hopkins has managed age far better than Calzaghe and even though Calzaghe was younger, there's a reason he's retired and Hopkins hasn't.

I think Hopkins had more left than Calzaghe.
