Why is that? Dawson absorbed Diaconu's best shots last nights better than Pascal did and it's not like Hopkins is a murderous puncher.
Dawson didn't belong in the same ring of Pascal or Hopkins yesterday imo. Emmanuel Steward said in a french media that Pascal was amateurish... Well, this amateurish rocked your boy. I lost all respect for Emmanuel Steward, who's clearly mad about the fact there's good boxing outside USA.
Dawson was never that good of a fighter. He had an outstanding performance against Adamek in which we saw Adamek quickly escalate up to cruiserweight and then heavyweight, so we can assume Adamek was quite drained at the weight due to his success at the higher weights. He went life and death with Glen Johnson - Johnson was never that great to begin with and only profited on his defeats of Jones Jr to make him seem good, but he should never win over elite talent and he should have got the fight in the first instance. Dawson vs Tarver, Tarver was also a guy who really just had the Roy Jones Jr fights as his major reason for being a name as well as the Rocky movies, ultimately Tarver wasn't really a threat for Dawson. Dawson has a weak chin and sloppy fundamentals, Hopkins is a southpaw killer, has one of the best straight rights in the game and knows how to keep himself away from damage. Unlike Calzaghe who had the footwork and ability to adapt distances to keep Hopkins defense from swallowing him, I don't think Dawson does. Hopkins would beat Dawson now and would have slaughtered him 3 years ago when he and Calzaghe fought.
The problem with Dawson is he keeps on getting a new trainer. I believe he has had 8? For a guy his age that is a hell of a lot of different trainer and technique in such a short time. The guy is gifted as hell but he's been confused as how to use that gift. I personal think he needs an offensive minded trainer.
Dawson can fight on the inside and outside, the only people who give Dawson problems are heavy handed inside pressure fighters and they mainly do well off of activity, they don't win. Like I said earlier Pascal was bogus, they stopped that fight on a bogus cut when Pascal was ready to go.
Pascal was in no way 'ready to go'. Why do you keep saying that? Dawson stunned him with an uppercut but Pascal recovered and started throwing back immediately when his back touched the ropes. The headbutt was unfortunate but it doesn't change the fact that Pascal out hustled Dawson and won fair and square. You can't just ignore the loss by pretending Dawson was going to knock Pascal out in the 11th or 12th
Yes Pascal was ready to go, Chad timed him perfectly and caught him so bad he stood straight up and had his hands down, but Chad backed off, but again he had him hurt badly. Then next thing you know they have the bull**** stoppage. Pascal outworked him, he was hardly effective in his pressure, but Chad simply did not do anything.
