I'll never buy into this "watch with the sound down" stuff. A commentator talking **** or a crowd cheering never, ever distorts what my eyes are seeing.

If you turn down the volume then play a copy of the Wizard of Oz just as Richard Steele is giving the pre-fight instructions it corresponds perfectly with the action from thereon in

I previously had Leonard by two rounds, turned down the volume and, staggeringly, had Leonard by two rounds again. :yikes

Wow ..... I don't know what to say to that one. ..... beer, kebab, hatred, conversion, detachment .... it's a ****ing epic. :rofl

    Anyway ...

Every time I watch I really think Hagler looks like he won it, 115-113 or 115-114 ...... 7-5 or possibly 6-5-1.
It was no robbery by any stretch.
But that's just the way I see it.

And even if Hagler was given it, I think it only adds to Leonard's greatness and detracts from Hagler's. A narrow loss still better for Leonard coming off the layoff and moving up a division, than a narrow win for Hagler.

    :good

 :drink Yeh i'd had a few when i wrote that road to damascas conversion:yep

I agree with you that if Leonard lost his legacy would be 10 x what it is today. It's the age old, no! It's the modern day conundrum of what is it you are looking for in a fight/boxing bout!!!! those 2 words say it all!! Are you tuning in to watch a FIGHT or are you tuning in too watch a BOXING MATCH & there will always lie's the rub:huh

Hagler proberbly won the fight but Leonard the boxing match & this will always be the case too hand now in what perception we use to judge a pugilistic encounter. Age old argument of does 3 power shots equal 20 pitter patter blows landed above the belt!!!???

Thats why plenty of folk had Duran beating Hagler up till the last 3 rounds, i was obviously one of them & so were all 3 judges, their's so many intangibles now as to what scores & whats effective & this is all due to TV commentary agenda who want BLOOD & BLOOD SELLS!!!

Are you going to watch the fight tonight or are you going to watch the BOXING, if we can work that out they'll be no more contraversy:bbb:tong:lol:

Just so the musical knowledge around here isn't as embarrassing as the scoring of fisticuffs... "I Can See Clearly Now The Rain..." was by Johnny Nash... then rerecorded in the 90's by Jimmy Cliff. If you are listening to Jimmy Cliff sing this in 1972, you have discovered a time portal.

    Hagler 115-113 Leonard.

Thats yer only claim to fame over me you nit picking wet wank, Jonny Nash/Jimmy Cliff? who gives a give a ****, they all look & sound the same to me now as they did back then. I remember this from 72 so i'am allowed some memory lapse.

Yer scoring is moronic, even the most blind & biased would'nt have the neck to out themselves in public saying Hagler won by 2 points so that leaves you in a catagory all of yer own which know doubt is what you've always intended so as too feed yer more than obvious inferiority complex:yep

Had it 115-113 for Hagler. If you had Leonad winning than fine but I felt Hagler landed the harder more effective punches.

7-5 Leonard.... Just watched the fight for the 7th time....What the **** was Hagler thinking boxing orthodox to start? it clearly didn't work for him to begin with, and pitter-patter or not, Leonard outboxed him for the 1st 4 rounds....the next 8 get really picky....and everybody loves round 9 :good

Either way this is in my top 15 fights of all time, but again In my opinion Hagler ****ed himself by agreeing to Leonards terms pre-fight...

i'm honestly curious about the varied opinions on this thread regarding leonard's performance: just because leonard couldn't hurt hagler, does that mean his punches don't count?

sure there we flurries and he "slapped" to make them sound bigger at times but he put beef behind a LOT of those punches, he just happened to be in the ring with a beast. by this logic, maxie rosenbloom never won a fight in his life because his opponents weren't visibly hurt by his punches.

it seems like leonard is consistently punished for that in this fight whereas others (let's say willie pep) are not.

Many of those punches were blocked or were glancing blows, not many punches in the flurries were solid connects. Whereas with Hagler, his punches were harder, and landing cleaner for the larger portions of the rounds, which is why everytime I've scored this fight, I've scored it 7 rounds to 5 in favor of Hagler.

i like you bill but have to disagree. many of those punches were blocked, but many of them landing flush and clean. in all the rounds, especially in the first 6, leonard landed a stupid number of clean blows imo. whether they were remotely effective is another story
