Yeah, your contention is probable and as likely to be right as any. First, there is no way BHOP is moving down to 168 IMO. And, Lucian is a large SMW who could easily meet BHOP at 175 and still make the return to 168 after that (as I'm sure he needs a pretty good cut from his walking around weight to make the 168 day before weigh-in). It is probable that a fight with BHOP (especially after two fights with Pascal) could generate more money than a fight with Kessler or the Super Six winner but whether the differential is enough to matter remains to be seen.

On the other hand, a strong case can be made for BHOP preferring Bute to Dawson for the far greater dollars it would bring to him and the still unanswered question of Bute's ability to fight someone decent and thrive. If there is a risk with either or both fighters then it is only sensible to want to get paid well (the old guy doesn't have many fights left).

I think it is most likely that Bute will do what he has been doing. He will take the fight in which perceives the least amount of risk and the money will be only a secondary consideration. I think your view will prove correct. At best he meets Kessler, at worst he fights another bum and waits for the Super Six winner. He will figure he can always fight Bernard when Hop hits 47 or 48 or 49, etc. and time has increased his chances.

I see a big contractual problem for a Bute-Dawson to happen. How could Bute (Showtime for 3 fights) and Hopkins (HBO for 3 fights) face eachother? Showtime is supposed to have a fourth fight option on Bute.

That alone makes impossible a Bute-Hopkins fight for the moment. I would love it though.

Funny how this Showtime contract was supposed to be Bute's ticket to finally fighting a live body, instead it's done nothing but support his run of tomato cans. Now that same contract is being used as a the excuse to STILL not fight a live body.

 

I agree Dawson is a rubbish fight for B-Hop but I don't see the Bute fight happening any time soon either I say bring on Cloud for a unification that I feel he will quite easily dominate

 

Funny to see how haters continue to hate. Bute signed with Showtime to face the best of his division. You should be glad of that.

Ask yourself: why Hopkins did sign a 3 fights contract with HBO if he wanted to face Bute (who had already signed with Showtime)?

In that case, it is Hopkins who made a fight against Bute impossible. Of course, haters will say it is Bute's fault. As usual. You obviously never understood the notion of fairness.

Bute would be the logical next fight for Hopkins if Bute will come to 175lbs to fight him. Hopkins has now fought at the Bell Centre in Montreal, so the fans there know who he is and the buzz would be intense surrounding the fight. There should be massive credit given to Hopkins if he fights and beats either one of those guys (Bute or Dawson).

 

Hopkins has said the lowest he can go is 170 and i cant see bute risking moving up to fight hopkins, bute is not a risk taker!!

Popkins would just love to beat bute in canada, ideal sceanario for him. Not sure if hes keen on dawson though, hes had plenty of opportunites to fight him before pascal beat him and didnt take any of them. Dawson has a low work rate though but is not amaturish like pascal so it would be a tougher fight for hopkins but because of dawsons low work rate hopkins could dominate him if he gets his tactics right imo. Plus the prospect of fighting dawson is just not that appealing really, his fights are pretty dull overall and his fanbase is poor

 

Hopkins should skip Chad AND Bute and retire immediately.

 

Dawson is a mando, plus Dawson had been trying to get a fight with Hopkins for years. Hell that is why he fought Pascal.

 

I'm sure Hopkins would fight either guy. BUt I prefer to skip Chad.
