I do think it's a bit harsh comparing Degale to Audley.

He lost a very close decision to a good fighter, he's already achieved as much if not more than Audley as a pro just winning the british title. If he hadn't been so up his own arse and so disrepectful to a guy who is of a similar level to himself then he wouldn't get so much stick so he deserves it.

He hasn't got the biggest heart and fighting spirit, you could see that from how he acted when cut, but he did come back from looking beaten and atleast try to win, I'd say he scraped a pass of the gut check, just didn't win the fight.

 

His attitude stinks

 

I don't think many would dispute that Degale is very talented. I'm not as concerned about the lack of hunger as I am his complete inability to adjust to Groves' style. I'm no boxing tactician but it looked clear to me that Degale looked the better fighter the few times he managed to draw George in, but Degale would only try it in spurts. He doesn't appear to me to have a good boxing brain to go with his undoubted talent. A better fighter would have imposed his own strategy and refused to let his opponent impose his.

 

Agreed, he looked shocked at Grove's tactics the first half of the fight. But when he did step up look much better.

You have to put some blame on Jim Mcdonell as well. I have no idea what they were doing in training.

 

Eubanks words are full of insight and wisdom. Just watch that ridiculous interview between degale and Jane couch and you realise he ain't got the hunger or discipline to make it really. The best he'll do is become an alphabet champ with clever matchmaking.

If he does want to reach elite level and compete he will need to change his mindset, work on his game and become more disciplined, realising it all takes hard work and dedication, not just words but in spirit.

He will also need to lose the idiots telling him he's the next mayweather. Problem with these upstarts nowadays iS that they think because they have millions and are on ppv bills they should act and talk like mayweather. The dIfferance between them is that he Is proven at the highest level, these guys have got theIr money too quick for their own good

 

Degale didn't even take this fight seriously, that alone show's how much he doesn't care.

That and the facty that he bottled it on the night didn't help.

Groves had WORLD CLASS sparring with Dirrell. Degale was sparring Clev.

There is no doubt that Groves wanted it more. Degale said he didn't press the fight more because he didn't want to "make mistakes". That is the mentality that Eubank is talking about. Degale needed to press the fight and take it to the inside. Groves was just waiting for that and was throwing very hard shots when Degale started throwing. Inevitably there were going to be exchanges if Degale got his punches off and Degale didn't have the hunger, the desire, the instinct, to force these exchanges (that he was getting the better of) and do whatever it took to get the victory. He was too weary of taking one from Groves, who punches very hard.

 

Think people are being far too harsh on Degale now! It is still early days!

 

Degale made things hard for hmself but groves had the better fight plan and stuck to it very well

There both early in there careers but i think the anderson fight taught groves so much, showed him the art of adapting in the ring. Showed he had heart! Degale hasnt been in that situation prior to groves at the weekend. He will learn and come back stronger but i dont wanna see an immediatte rematch. Lets see it again when there both at euro level then complete the trilogy at world

here, by the way, I know this don't mean **** in the long run or grand scheme of things and we only got to see a little segment of the sparring but Cleverly was handling him.

 

Degale shouldn't be written off for losing a close fight against a decent fighter who stuck to orders for most of 12 rounds any more than he should have been the next Marvin Hagler for beating Paul Smith.
