Dana White on 'Forbes SportsMoney:' UFC is now bigger than boxing and WWE combined

dana was ******ed to say what he did but this is also equally ******ed, mma aint going anywhere, and neither is boxing for that matter, they can both coexist

 

Well they simply are worth more than the WWE or any single boxing promoter. So on that measure they are bigger. Beyond their market worth, its tricky to work as they all run their own business models that have different strengths and weaknesses but the arguments for what White is saying are:

Zuffa is more profitable than WWE and I can't think of a boxing promoter that makes the money that they do.

They employ more fighters than any single boxing promoter or the WWE has wrestlers.

For the past three years they've broken their own record for the number of pay per view buys in a single calendar year while boxing has become dangerously reliant on a couple of big stars and the WWE's numbers have plummetted.

Against that there's the sheer breadth of boxing's talent pool and the global reach of its superstars (although all that's undermined by how fractured it is) and the WWE have just so many different revenue streams.

 

let me just say this before Will Cooling comes in to shamelessly defend Dana Whites outlandish claims once again..... oh wait!

Well as has already been referenced in this thread he was probably referring to pay per view where they are in fact bigger than wrestling and boxing combined.

And I never gave an opinion as to which company is bigger - indeed I said its difficult to work out given how different their business models are. However no boxing promoter nor the WWE is worth the $1.2billion that the UFC is valued at.

As to the point on profitablity - that's taken from something Meltzer wrote a while back. And given his background he'd probably be the best to make the comparison.

Fine. Maybe I could have been clearer about what I said but I never said I agreed with White. All I was trying to show was that some of the comments in the thread that suggested it ridiculous to suggest that the UFC was bigger than the WWE or boxing was silly.

And I dissent with plenty of things that White says and does. Many times its just the standard BS I expect from a promoter - I don't get mad at Vince McMahon claiming 93,000 attended Wrestlemania III and nor do I get made when White says obviously hyerbolic things like the sport will be bigger than soccer. Sometimes I do actively disagree - for example trying to make Chael Sonnen a coach in The Ultimate Fighter 14 was reckless and shameless. I just find the rampatant negativity and ceaseless criticism some posters on this forum give him bizarre. Yes Dana White is no saint but he's hardly the devil either.
