I have never said Groves is "chinny". I said the crowd was pro-Groves, and this most likely played a factor in the scoring. I have given both fighters credit for fighting one another, and have even complimented Team Hayemaker on their gameplan. What else do you want me to say? I don't think I was wrong because I had DeGale winning the fight by 3 points. There should be an immediate rematch. The fight was razor close, entertaining down the stretch, and attracted a lot of attention. I'm of the belief that there are fans among us who don't want to see a rematch because they have a pretty good idea what might happen. DeGale would probably go in as favoruite again.
I would say Groves has already demonstrated a number of virtues needed to succeed at world championship level, desire, discipline & versatility. Degale has been shown up for the one-dimensional counterpuncher that he is, ffs if Groves can befuddle him by just constantly moving to Degale's right it doesn't bode well for his future. Unfortunately for Degale not all of his future opponents are going to stand statuesque in front of him. Also alot of his punching was ineffectual and slapping, most of the damage to Groves was done either through constant use of the head or elbows.....the cheating ****!
I thought the head clashes were all accidental and not always instigated by James DeGale. Likewise, the elbows were handbags, but the referee acted accordingly and warned the fighter. I think screams for points being deducted is ludicrous. Stupid.
No, the headbutts by Degale were a deliberate tactic to stun his opponent, immediately followed by flurry of slaps. I suppose throwing the shoulder in an opponent's face is a valid tactic aswell..... Fact is, if the ref had done his job properly he should have deducted a couple of points off Degale but what can you expect, it was a Frank Warren Promotion afterall:deal
George is 23. He has had 13 fights & now holds 2 titles He has already beaten the undefeated commonwealth amateur champ & an undefeated olympic gold medalist More importantly he is critical of himself but ambitious & has a great team round him The futures bright, the futures orange
