If Haye wins, he'll become Super Champ, if Wlad wins, he'll get stripped.

It's just a joke refering to Valuev getting the belt although Chagaev "lost" it to Vlad.

Exactly. The WBA will probably demand a defense against somebody who is unrated with the other sanctioning bodies, within 6 weeks.

I'm curious if Wlad/Chagaev II will be enforced. Not a fight anyone really wants to see again I think.

they took it away cos he kept pulling out of fights with his mandatory. after the third time he pulled out...he got stripped of the title & the title was awarded to the mandatory challenger.

The WBA gave him special dispensation to fight Wlad in a unification match.

It's the WBC with Don King links, not WBA. WBA is more Arum.

Ah, fair enough. I thought it was something like that but wasn't too sure either.

Historically the Klits and Don King have had some... well, if not animosity, then at least a disinclination to do business together. I thought that Valuev was King's boxer, and that was where his influence on the WBA was felt.

But that is just... half remembered bits of this and that. If anyone knows more then it would be good to hear about it.

    That's odd...
Titles are won in the ring.
Usually if a champ gets stripped the title is declared vacant and two top-rated guys fight for it to determine a new champion.
How can you just award the title to someone?
WBA has surely been acting strange lately

Interim is slightly differently to mandatory, although similar. Norton won his title 'out of the ring' too.

Increasingly, the organisations are making up rules as they see fit, so wouldn't put anything past them.

    valuev was also interim champion.

after the 2nd time chagaev pulled out ruiz & valuev had a fight to decide the new interim champion with the winner to face chagaev.

So WBA invents all sorts of "interim" titles (regular champ, champ in recess, champ on vacation, super champ, honorary champ) and now they'll just ping pong the championship from one man to another without making actual fights? As a fan of boxing I think it's outrageous.

well...they did it cos the champ kept on pulling out of fights to meet his mando.

after 2 pull-outs they set up an interim title bout with the winner to face champion.

after chagaev pulled out a third time they awarded the title to valuev.

if you think that's outrageous; thats your prerogative. i don't recall too many people being upset at the time...just like not many are sad that braehmer got stripped after pulling out of a similar number of title defences. & that was the wbo. so it's not just the wba.

WRONG! Chagaev did NOT pull out. He showed up for the fight and Sauerland/Valuev stole the title by refusing a simple vaccination. Valuev also refused to fight the mandatory challenger for the title also on the card (Kali Meehan). Chagaev fought 2 weeks later in Germany without problem. He was still WBA Champion in this fight, but the WBA didn't sanction the bout. The next day after losing, he was stripped.
