I work as a paramedic and our policy states we cant engage in dangerous activities outside of work (which I think is BS). I can understand maybe professional but not amateurs. Ive had to keep my training hush hush and was wondering if there were anyway they could fire me for not complying to company policy. Im in Texas if that helps. I think its stupid...pretty sure someone in a major accident isnt gonna give a **** if i have a black eye!! lol. Thanks for the help guys!

As far as injuries go boxing is not a dangerous sport at all really.

Compare the amount of injuries people get from playing ANY other sport to boxing.
The ABSOLUTE WORST you can get is a concussion (in the ams), and even then you can say you slipped and fell in the shower or something.
Black eye, well try not to spar during the week, save it for days before off-days.

    Keep at it mate.
If you are a good paramedic I doubt they're looking for signs of doing anything outside of work.

Policy is there to protect the company and be insured, and be in a legal position to fire you if **** hits the fan. If you are unable to do your job then that's an issue.

Very true..thanks....however my place of employment is notorious for enforcing policies and if not followed will make an example out of whoever it is...but this will not deter me lol I have goals and dont intend on stopping for them...just wasnt sure of the legal ramifications...I mean the way its laid out sky diving is out of the question. What about a freindly football game with family??? Upper managament is known to continue to push the enevelop but thats whole nother story :-(. I figuered id jsut keep it to myself

More people die playing golf than boxing.

Amateur boxing is as safe a sport as any. It's not a dangerous activity assuming it's in controlled environments.

Would they stop you cycling (Mountain or Road)? How about Skiing (okay maybe not in texas)? I'd guarantee there are more injuries in those sports than Amateur Boxing.

    Yeah keep it to yourself.
They HAVE to say that sort of thing, and they would be within their rights to fire you in this sort of situation if for any reason boxing stopped you doing your job properly.
Just don't complain, and don't get hurt often! And that's just from heavy sparring, sometimes.
AM Boxing is as safe as houses.

You'd have to look up the law in texas cant help you there

Im in the Uk and worked on the reception of a doctors surgery. Other people there all played sports and physical activities. However when i started boxing it was brought up that i should get insurance as if im injured due to sport and couldnt work then i couldnt claim sick pay. This they said is the same for any sport.... however it was never mentioned until i started boxing

Yeah this pretty much standard practice in a lot of jobs. They see it as a self inflicted injury as you are putting yourself at risk and so wouldn't qualify for sick pay.

yeh its fair enough. i think i would have a problem if they banned me as i would make the argument are other employees banned from sports as they all carry risk

Boxing is actually a safer sport than Football... I dont think they can stop you legally unless you signed something prior to being hired..

Thanks all..yeah i cant find anything but im not too internet saavy.lol...I thought the amateur boxing association pays for injuries incurred...but this is what i was told a long time ago and not sure if its true anymore (or ever was). Either way i would def put up a fight if it ever came up...what i do on my own time within legal limits is my own business IMO
