Tell me about zivic

    I see him appear on plenty of top 25 lists and I was quite happy with my list but he didn't feature in it.

    Is there any real argument to have him there? I know he mixed it up with a lot of good comp from armstrong to lamotta but is there something i'm missing?

    My top 25 is, roughly off top of my head:

    Charles

    As a side note, hopkins and pac have done enough to break this list but they're still relevant so ranking them seems premature.

    Should I have zivic here and if so, why?

    Zivic was the dean of dirty fighters..and be not mistaken...that's a compliment...he was a virtuoso.

    Yes, of course..the Zivic that twice beat Armstrong would have no problems at all...more than a handful for most of them..he was the Professor Emeritus of the dirty tricks of boxing.:smoke

    I'm a huge fan of Pittsburgh boxing and have studied it in depth, but I could never justify placing Zivic in my top 25 p4p. Top 25 welters? Yes. You may even make a case for him being in the top 10 or 15 head to head at welter. But top 25 p4p I would say no. Just my opinion

    I saw ole Fritzie Zivic school a young knockout sensation from Philly, Billy Arnold in 1945
    at MSG. Zivic ran hot and cold as a fighter. As a Welterweight i would put a Jack Britton, Ted kid Lewis,Mickey Walker, Barney Ross ahead of Zivic, man to man. He had just the right style against Henry Armstrong ,beating Henry at his own rough house game in close...

    Yeah i'd always viewed him as a top welter but can't see, from what I know, how he's top 25 p4p.

    Here's a quick little tidbit for you. After losing for the second time in three fights with Charley Burley, Zivic bought his contract to force him out of the welterweight title picture. Only after he won the title a few years later did he sell Burleys contract.

    By buying out his contract he was able to control him and avoid a matchup

    Exactly. He was also able to keep him from making fights that would get him a shot, or close to a shot at the welterweight title.

    Zivic was very cunning inside -and outside- the ring. He'd do what had to be done even if it meant buying the contract of a live threat.

    Search for 'You gotta fight dirty' and go to the cyberboxingzone pdf, nice article. Would link it but on my phone. I don't think he should be near a 25 or even 50 personally. Record is far too mixed and just not on the level of those sorts of names.

    Zivic was one of the more cerebral fighters of all time.

    Whoever he fought, he always seemed to stop them fighting the fight they wanted.
