Clearly Pac becoming a two-handed fighter ranks high.

Marvin Hagler greatly improved in just about every area as his career went on.

    Excellent question.

Marciano and all of his work with Goldman and work on that balance. You also had an individual willing to listen and go out and train that hard for a fight. W/o Goldman and w/o a willingness to learn and change, where does a Rocky Marciano go?

Similar in some ways was Frazier and his work with Yank and Eddie and go to that bob and weave style. Without that bob and weave, I sure don't see Joe being anywhere near as effective.

Something somewhere was done with Hearns also. As an amateur he was no devastating puncher. As soon as he turns pro w/ Manny the guy is a killer and is starching every welterweight he faced for a long time. How? What a huge transition from once he became a pro. He simply had to change something to have his effectiveness increased by leaps and bounds and have power and snap with both hands.

Wladamir has has improved his staminia or some people say fights scared because he's not throwing as many punches but you can't argue with his recent record. His defense is better. Froch has becomed a lot better since the guy that was schooled by jt until he knocked him out. Pavlik showed us a nice left hook and some head movement in his last fight.

    Wladimir Klitschko and Manny Pacquiao.

You can make a case that Ortiz improved mentally as well.

I would say his defense improved the most, not just with his hands but footwork as well. His conditioning was at its peak after the age of 30 IMO, his punches were thrown with more selection as his title defenses mounted (although that was his only downfall against SRL). He always had great power but I would say his defense, offensive skill, stamina, and ring movement all improved with age even towards the end of his career.

How about your avatar? Developed into a boxer/puncher instead of a slick cute southpaw.

This is a great thread topic, and I'll agree with you on Pacman.

    - This referring to Hagler.

I would say Calzaghe continued to polish his fight game into his 30's, largely in part due to better competition towards the end. Larry Holmes added many new angles and punches to hit repetuar (sp) as he defended the HW crown, his jab seemed to only become more accurate with each fight. Ken Norton became very good at cutting the ring off and using the jab more as he got older, his biggest downfall was he only knew one direction and that was foreward.

I was thinking that. Plus, Martinez learned to press the action after the bs draw with Cintron. I think he learned American judges tend to favor outright aggression and tailored his game accordingly.

Pernell Whitaker IMO got better with age in most respects when you look at pure ability.

Very good point martinez has become more agressive. I think he just needed to believe his own punching power. And he's starting to after cutting up pavlik, koing williams w/punch, and kd his last opponent 5 times whose never even been kd before. He's become pretty exciting to watch as a result of this.

On side note arreola took care of his weight issue but its only been one fight so don't know if that counts.
