I saw him in Vegas at the Pacquiao/Mosley fight, he looked in superb shape + i was with Glen Johnson at the BWAA dinner & we had a quick photo taken & as i put my arm around him for the shot it felt like rock. He's cut & sleek already also.
Froch is an old timer. I actually think fighting at your natural weight can prolong your career. Cutting weight makes the body shot much quicker IMO (a hunch, no scientific evidence)
if this is true then it also means he is eating what he enjoys without too much trouble having to make weight. off topic - I was listening to Andre Ward recently and he said that Froch was taken aback when he saw the size of Ward.
There's an article in this months Boxing Monthly about the amount of shocks there's been in boxng this year. It uses JuanMa as an example. He apparently came into camp well overweight and spent a large portion of the camp shedding the weight. The time spent shedding weight was to the detriment to other aspects of his training and conditioning. The article made the wider point that boxers shouldn't be coming into camp 20/30lbs over weight and use the camp as a way in which to get in shape they should be coming closer to fighting weight and using the camp to hone their skills.
I think Froch has really re-dedicated himself to sport since his loss to Kessler. He kinda said that he was losing the drive he once had and maybe needed that kick up the arse to come back and come back he did in sublime style. He will need to be in great shape this will be a tough fight.
The reason Hopkis career has gone on so long is because he lives at that weight and doesnt have to kill himself to get down to a weight. Middleweight isnt out of the realms of all possibility but having a guy as cut as Froch going down to light middle would just be silly
Makes sense, maybe not science, I have always wonderd why boxers drain themselves to make a weight...I understand the concept but it must be bad for you, whereas if you are always near to your narural weight you dont need to dehyrade etc...
Just looking on BoxRec, Froch has been weighing in at 167 (give or take 1/2 a pound) for the last 7 years. That's quite remarkable. Does anyone have any info on his weights in the ring on fight nights? Would be interesting.
He really needs to be up for this fight, old Glen would love to pull the wool over his eyes especially after Hopkins winning, so...good for Froch.
Yeah, these days once boxers reach world level they often become part-time boxers really: they only train when a fight is scheduled, when camp begins. That is a terrible attitude IMO and leaves you vulernable to the hungrier, more active boxer. De La Hoya was bad for this i think late in his career and hatton another. They stopped improving their skills at a certain point whilst someone like Froch at 33 has just turned in a career best performance. I understand that they cannot train to such an intense level year round but they can certainly keep fresh and work on different aspects.
Margo weighed in at 150 for the Pacman fight yet he weighed 165 in the ring. So a 167 Froch can make 154 the same way.
160 is not a **** division, its stacked with talent but unlike 168 the big fights aren't been made. Thats what the problem is.
