^^^ I agree with this. Froch has been pretty consistent fighting every five or six months, which allows for a few weeks of total rest, then a bit of light training, then a proper camp. Hatton used to weigh-in at 140, enter the ring at 152ish and balloon to over 180lbs.... by doing nothing he'd lose all his muscle definition too, obviously fat is lighter than muscle so he may as well have put on 4st. It doesn't take much effort to eat a ''normal'' diet, i.e. no fry ups, only the occasional takeaway and a few beers at the weekend whilst during a R & R period, plus a jog around the block twice a day. A block of say 2-4 weeks of light training would shake off the cobwebs pretty quickly allowing you to be at full throttle for the full camp. I suppose by having to lose plenty of weight during camp you risk overtraining and putting unnecessary miles on the clock.... as a professional athlete you shouldn't be training to get fit, you should be training to improve, being fit should surely be the starting point? Hatton could easily have kept to 160 by eating his **** diet and going for a jog, or vice versa, reasonable diet and sitting in front of the telly.
Why would he want to move down if he is making 168 with ease and more importantly he doesn't have to skip meals to make it either. He is very strong at the weight and has huge stamina.
Good points. He doesn't appear to be a small super middle when he fights. If he is giving away weight in the ring, it doesn't seem to be to his disadvantage.
If anything it just shows the professionalism of Froch. I read before that since he has turned pro he has kept records of everything he eats.
I can only think of a few who don't balloon in weight after the weigh in. Froch, Pacquiao, Hopkins, Cunningham...any more? I think you'd be hard pressed to name 10 elite level fighters who don't dehydrate before a weight in.
Very impressive indeed. Its the mental edge also that it gives Froch, he loves to believe he is putting in more than the other guy .
its weird comparing froch to our younger british SMW he just looks HUGE and much better shape then the lot of them!!!
Yeah but those who are going to absurd lengths to make weight do so to have a greater size advantage in the ring over those who do very little. If that wasn't the case then they would take the easier route and fight at the next weight up.
