I like Martinez but he's clearly looking for a big payday. There's no reason for him to be calling out Mayweather or Pac. If he truly wants to be #1 p4p then he needs to call out Ward and Froch.

If he beats the winner of Froch/Ward, he can make a great argument for being #1 P4P. If he beats Pac or Mayweather, people are going to say he beat much smaller guys. I'm sure he knows this so it can only be concluded he's just looking for a big payday.

I understand the desire for Martinez to move up, but exactly what's the point of "calling out" Froch, Ward, or Bute? None of them are going to be available to fight him for at least a year. At least the Pavlik-fans/Martinez-haters are actually calling for him to fight someone that is not going to have their schedule filled for the next 2-3 fights.

How convenient for *******s say Sergio a career 154lber go up and fight Bute, Froch, and Ward all in their primes while Manny get credit for fighting pinatas bigger than himself. Being a ******* is worse than a ******.

Are you saying that Marquez is gonna be fighting a weight drained Pacquiao?

So now he's magically shot because he fought Mayweather?

I like Marquez. He's fought everyone's style. He's had a couple of unlucky breaks with Pacman. He'd probably be Mexico's Greatest boxers had he gotten the right decisions with the Pac fights.

I think he's the hungrier fighter than Pacman at this point.

Do NOT sleep on Marquez and Don'T be surprised if he pulls off the upset and gets a 4th fight with Pac thus squeezing Mayweather out the Pac sweepstakes.

Such a risk moving up in weight, prooving your self moving up with bigger guys... thats whats been up not moving down to fight smaller guys, everyone is testing themselves moving up in these big test, going up 2 divisions, yet Martinez can't go up 8 louzy lbs having already the structure and build to fit at the weight and obviously oversize welters. Why didn't he attempt to get his revenge from a prime Margarito? This guy is avoiding all the risk and real test... now he takes away cotto's posible opponent in Chavez jr, claiming he gets to fight the winner of Chavez jr/ zbik.... oooohh this guy sure deserves his spot in the p4p list...

Mosley was a TERRIBLE win for Manny, I can't believe people are hanging on to that. Mosley was old and didn't even try. He was coming off of two very poor outings. It would be forgivable if it was only against Floyd, but Sergio Mora? Not a good win.

Margarito was a good win. I say that because Manny is very fast and mobile. If you can beat Margarito to the punch like that AND get out of the way, you can beat him handily. That's why he was being tagged when he decided to trade. When he was moving and boxing, he was pasting Margarito and not really getting hit at all. Margarito was passed his best. He had been dominated and destroyed by Shane Mosley earlier in 2009. His last fight was an extremely poor performance. Nonetheless, still a good win.

Clottey was not even in Manny's class. He didn't try either. Every time Clottey steps up, he can't deliver. He can't fight consistently and pull out a victory where it seems he has all the tools to do so. Another fruitless victory.

Cotto was a great win, and I won't discredit it. (even with the catchweight) Cotto was a big force in the welterweight division prior to the Margarito loss which came in mid 2008. He had what some call a lackluster performance against Clottey, but I thought he showed a lot to come back from that early deficit. Great win.

At the time, I thought Hatton was going to give Manny hell, but it looked like his punch resistance was shot. He's taken some bombs and not even flinched before, but this time he just couldn't take anything. Hatton had come off one of the best wins of his career in destroying Paulie Malignaggi. He was looking good in his comeback since his Floyd loss, but like I said earlier, his punch resistance looked to be gone. Still, a good win.

Sergio fought Paul Williams in a close fight, then knocked him out cold in two rounds. That's as good as any of Manny's recent wins. (also, I don't quite understand why Paul Williams challenging Sergio Martinez for the MW title fails to qualify as contending for a MW title) Williams had only one loss and it came in early 2008. I would call that a great win. Even though he lost the first fight on the cards.

Sergio fought a 37-fight, undefeated JMW champion in Dzinziruk that everyone predicted would at least give him a harsh fight and maybe even beat him. Sergio out-jabbed the so-called "best jabber in the sport," won almost every round, and knocked him down five times en route to a stoppage. Excellent win.

Pavlik was a bit of an overrated win, in my opinion. He was lineal middleweight champion, but he hadn't had a good win since Taylor over two years prior to this bout. I don't remember very many people picking Pavlik to win. Pavlik was a bit "damaged," but he was lineal champ and only had one loss to B-Hop in late '08. Decent win.

I may be one of the only people on here that thinks Cintron is a good fighter. I think he did well against Sergio, and I think he won three of the four rounds against Williams. That being said, that draw was bogus, Sergio should have won that fight. Can't overturn the judges decision, though. I don't rate this that much. Both fighters did well, in my opinion. Cintron was coming off his sensational victory over previously undefeated Angulo and had only lost to Margarito in mid 2008. I'd call that at least a decent "victory."

    My conclusion:
Sergio just barely hit the top of the world at the end of 2009. He's been doing really well, better than Manny has recently in my opinion. Manny has been being matched conservatively, that's no secret. There are opponents out there for Manny and Bob Arum is blatantly changing stories to create excuses for his matchmaking. At least Sergio's opponents are coming off of wins.

Sergio is right. Only an idiot would bet on Hatton fought Pac, hitman was spent and broken by Collazo, and finished off by May.
Margarito was beaten to **** by Mosley.
Cotto was beaten to **** by Margarito.
Pac is a cherry picker. and I don't even like Floyd.
