This is taken from the absolutely excellent BM special on the fight. Can't recommend it highly enough for you the guys who post here but aren't sure "which one Wlad is" :D Anyway, really good previews.

For the purposes of this sub-forum, i'm going to heavily compress the section where ATG's get matched with both men.

EDIT: Fights are fought under modern rules with modern gear over a 12 round distance.

    Jack Johnson, 2-0

Haye: "...a focused Johnson absorbs the occasional Hayemaker while countering with vigour. By the final round an exhausted, bedraggled Haye is punished for his willingness to trade. Johnson, bruised but ahead on the cards, steps in and ends things with a violent volley of headshots persuading the referee to end proceedings."

    Johnson TKO12 Haye.

Wlad: "Johnson is content to sit back and let opportunities present themselves...the size difference does not convince Wlad to throw caution to the wind and go for the blowout [Chambers fight cited]. Klitschko wins his share of rounds early...by the middle sessions Johnson increases the punch outpout, dancing inside."

    Johnson UD Klitschko

    Jack Dempsey 0-2

Haye: "Dempsey sets out to dispose of the Brit as quickly as possible and comes close to doing so...Dempsey attacks his rivals body in the second...Haye finds his range with a booming straight right. Jack rises groggily at nine but he's not in good shape. To Dempsey's utter dismay, the referee ends the contest."

    Haye TKO2 Dempsey

Wlad: "Dempsey has brief success in the second when he bolts underneat the Ukranian's rangefinder and cracks home a good right hand that causes the big man to tie up...by the seventh, though, he is swollen, beat up and can hardly see the punches coming. After walking into a gargantuan right he takes the count whilst blindly trying to rise."

    Wlad KO7 Dempsey

    Joe Louis 2-0

Haye: The action describes Haye hurting Louis before failing to finish him, with Louis landing a perfect counterpunch and then finishing. Spookily viable IMO.

    Louis KO2 Haye.

Wlad: The action describes an organised Wlad keeping Louis at bay and winning rounds early, but a certain nervousness pervading his work until Joe feints his man and uncorks a perfect right-hand punch to unseat Klitschko the result of which is "a little like seeing King Kong fall of the Empire State Building."

    Louis KO8 Wlad

    Rocky Marciano 1-1

Haye: "Haye's signature left-right-through-the-middle opens up a cut inside a minute. More stunned than hurt, Marciano rises quickly. Haye opts to box from distance. By the fifth Marciano has slowed Haye's panicky retreats but his cut is flapping obsecently. The doctor is called...boos drown out the announcement that David has won."

    Haye TKO5 Marciano

Wlad: Marciano is warned for rule infringements whilst trying to pin down an in control but rarely comfortable Wlad. "By the eleventh Wlad is exhausted. With a minute remaining in the 12th, Rocky frees himself from his gassed opponents arms and swings in two hacking hooks. There is no escape for Wladimir."

    Marciano KO12 Wlad

    Muhammad Ali 2-0

Haye: Ali predicts a third round KO, Haye takes this in surprising good grace! "Ali controls the opening two, and, as the third begins, Haye beckons Muhammad towards him to do his worst...Ali launches a dazzling assault...punctuated with a right through the middle...as Ali goes in for the finish Haye lands a desperation right which stuns the challenger. Ali bends at the knees in mock dismay before firing again. The referee leaps in to end the contest. Haye is furious."

    Ali TKO3 Haye

Wlad: "The fight is not a classic. Ali is the aggressor. Klitschko refuses to be drawn. The pattern continues into the championship rounds...in the 10th, Ali's speed of foot positions him to counter Wlad's left. He tries to hold bu ALi resists, hops back and shoots. Klitschko teeters forwards clutching at air. Two more KD's follow.

    Ali TKO10 Wlad

    Joe Frazier 2-0

Haye: "The Frazier who scalped Ali was one of the greatest heavyweights of all time...unimpressed by his foes disrespectful comments. David struggles to find his range and Frazier takes the fight to the taller man, bending at the waist to craft his infamous bobbing, weaving attack. Haye counters as Frazier shapes his hook into a weapon. Socked and hurt, Frazier stumbles...in round 6 Haye is tiring and leaves his chin in the wrong place. Frazier hangs it on a pristine hook. Game over."

    Frazier KO6 Haye

Wlad: "Stylistically, Joe is Wlad's worst nightmare. As Joe effortlessly slips under Klitshcko's extended limbs and blazes to the body, Emanuel Steward briefly turns away in horror...in the second Frazier grins through his gum shield as KLitschko mindlessly hurtles to the deck."

    Frazier KO2 Wlad

    George Foreman 1-1

Haye: Boxes and takes the first landing a huge flush punch in the second which Foreman shakes off. Haye looks nervous in the third. In the fourth he gets hit with a body-shot and then an uppercut. He rises, but doesn't survive the follow up.

    Foreman KO3 Haye

Wlad: "George comes out blazing but his rival boxes cleverly and ties his man up inside. Dropped in the sixth, Wlad survives and is firmly in control of a tiring Foreman by the 9th."

    Wlad SD Foreman

    Larry Holmes 2-0

Haye: "By the 5th, Larry is trippling up his jab and has control. Haye remains dangerous but by the 7th is taking fewer and fewer risks as Holmes ups his shot output. By the 11th, Haye's face is bloodied and swollen and after taking a jab, hook and a right cross, the man in the middle steps in and ends the battering."

    Holmes TKO11 Haye

Wlad: Wlad struggles to land more than apunch at a time whilst Larry is able to work of his jab.

    Holmes UD Wlad

    Mike Tyson 2-0

Haye: "Tyson tears into his taller adversary...Haye hold on desperately. In the second he opts to fire back. Haye seems to be bossing the action, but there can only be one winner in this street-brawl described as a prize fight. Thyson dips and, upon rising, forms a double right hook that lands above Haye's ear and puts out the lights."

    Tyson KO2 Haye

Wlad: "Tyson makes Klitschko's jab look slow. Whenever Mike gets close enough, Wlad wraps his massive arms around him and grabs tight but Tyson breaks away and resumes his blistering attack. Tyson starts to get unsettled by the mauling tactics but Klitschko is unwilling to add to distress by throwing anything meaningfull. In the fourth, Tyson tattoos Wladimir's midsection. Tyson gets through with a left and a right....KLitschko crashes out of the rig above us! I think you can safely say this one is over screams Lampley.

    Tyson KO3 Wlad

    Lennox Lewis 2-0

Haye: Lewis jabs his way ahead, but Haye keeps things interesting with scoring punches on the inside. In the fifth Haye staggers Lewis with a right and Lennox gets a row between rounds. "In the seventh Lewis's shots flow seamlessly and with Haye shuffling forwards to find an opening, Lennox glides to his left, chucks a range finder, and almost simultaneously hurls a blazing right hand that connects and ends things suddenly."

    Lewis KO7 Haye

Wlad: Lewis boxes Wlad back and wins with a one-punch right-hand KO

    Lewis KO5 Wlad

So...a mixed bag here. What sticks out?

A lot of laughable rose-tinted bull****. I am so surprised.

Wlad destroys Jack Johnson, has a harder time with Dempsey. Marciano doesn't last 10 with Wlad. And I'm afraid Frazier has a harder time with Wlad than is suggested here.

Haye is such an incomplete work at heavyweight that I have a hard time taking some of this seriously. The guys who were actually cruisers, close to it or fought largely cruiser sized opponents make it easier. I think Haye would beat Johnson, get destroyed by Dempsey and Louis and Marciano.

Which way are you pointing Seamus? Backwards or forwards? Because picking Haye to beat Dempsey and Marciano and Wlad to beat Foreman seems as likely to rile as picking Johnson and Louis to beat Wlad will to others?

It seems pretty consistent in it's infuriation to me?

Dempsey shatters Haye and Wlads chin. The Tyson fight is spot on.

Whenever there is a huge fight they do a special glossy mag edition. It looks more like a monthly than anything else. It is released independent of any weekly release. You should be able to get it. I really can't recommend it enough, though of course it has it's awful moments.

I bought this yesterday at WHSmith, there were certain details within their prediction paragraphs which i found myself disagreeing with, but overall most (not all) of their predicted outcomes were quite agreeable with me, even if my own predicted outcomes varied to some degree. I was going to make a topic like this, but unlike McGrain i was too lazy to type up their predictions.

I would strongly recommend people to buy this Boxing News special edition, it has some quality material in it.

Well, when the anti-Dempsey brigade are relying on a fantasy David Haye to beat down the old idol you know Dempsey's legacy is safe in the long run. Sometimes things can go a little too far to hope to retain any credibility.

David Haye gets turned to dust in 5 weeks time and whoever believes that article will die of embarrassment - though obviously, realistically, it's just pre-fight hype and the author doesn't really believe it.

The one thing that Boxing Newspreview really lack is how the fighters will integrate together. We basically get an overview of their careers (in this and in the normal previews) and then a winne rpicked and method. Why dont they go into detail on how the skills would clash? How the styles would mesh? etc...

    Anyone can write about facts.

Nice post McGrain. There's a lot to talk about here. One must think that Dempsey could blitz Haye, and he has the style to do the same to Wlad, but he is a lot smaller. I know he was smaller than Willard and Firpo but for one they are different animals and for two Wlad is better than both of them.
