Fernando vargas has become an example for fighters that are thrown in front of the lions early in their career.
Common belief is that Felix Trinidad is the one that ruined him, being 22 with a good string of wins facing prime trinidad and actually being competitive at some points, knocking tito down who the proceeded by lowblowing him to get some air.
In the end great performance by trinidad in stopping this young tough guy. But is that the fight that ruined him?
One could say yes because he got dropped in his next fight vs rivera, on the other hand he did win another belt vs flores and was competitive in the fight vs Oscar. I guess by the time Oscar fought vargas it was the softer version, same with the cotto that fought pac after margarito.
I personally think Oscar Ruined Vargas, let me explain though, I do believe Trinidad softened him up, Vargas was never down but after tito kicked his ass he gets dropped his next fight. the de la hoya figh was such pure hatred between the two of them especially from Vargas who really wanted to destroy Oscar. After Oscar knocked him out I think it ruined him mentally, after that fight he balooned up, never fought with the same ambition and mindset and was basically shot early.
Since he really hated Oscar and believed he was really better then him meant that Oscar didnt only took the win that night he took his soul as well.
So who do you think ruined him? Trinidad,Oscar or was it another factor: His eating and drinking, bad management, steroids,Mosley?

Fighting hitters like Quartey, Trinidad and Mosley is such a short space at such a young age. He didn't help himself by getting large and cutting weight to make 154, look at the differences in performance between Mosley I and Mosley II.

Well management definitely shoulders some blame, vargas was very exciting though even if his prime was short, the fights were always awesome. Im worried that canelo is being put on the same route as Vargas.

An example of somebody Trinidad ruined was David Reid, not Vargas.

Felix Trinidad absolutely. He was never the same after that fight. Too early indeed.
