Long time hardcore fight fan from Oz here . Love the british boxing scene and british fighters but this Howard Foster dude must be stopped ! Time and time again he ruin's good fights with ridiculously early and bizarre stoppages .When will the britsh boxing board open it's eye's and realise the immense damage Foster is doing to boxing .
He's very inconsistent. Sometimes he lets fights go on quite well but he's been responsible for some awful stoppages as well.
This is spot on. Highly inconsistent. For example, the doran fight v maxwell on eurosport last week was horrendous. That was him wasn't it?
I wouldn't say worst in the world When he's on form he's right up there with the very best anywhere.... but other times he's almost looking for an excuse to dive in. Compare this..... Only just saw that Doran-Maxwell fight myself on Hatton TV. It's a poor stoppage and is definitely inconsistent but it's understandable how the decision to halt the contest was made. Doran was staggered very early into the round and there was clear room for referee Howard Foster to step in and give a standing 8 count. After all, Doran was only kept up by the ropes. Later in the round, Maxwell gets tagged 3 times and his eyes go. He had lost all concentration, albeit for only a few seconds, and Doran landed another 2 clean punches rocking his head back. There was no room for Foster to step in and Maxwell wasn't only kept up by the ropes. That said, I don't believe it was a great decision to stop the fight at that moment. It is clearly a little inconsistent and unfair. Looked to be a great fight as well. Horse out.
Please tell me that you're not going to sign off every post with horse out!!! Bunceys adios is JUST about bearable, but yours is an epic fail. Re foster, He stopped smith v degale at exactly the right stage, but if he stopped maxwell, then doran should at least have had a standing 8 agreed. The one thing I do like about him is that I think he has a genuine care for the boxers and stops a fight when although it seems the boxer can carry on, it is obvious to him at close quarters that things like body language are not right. Ian John Lewis cannot score a fight to save his life bit isn't a bad ref IMO
Is it Ritchie Davis who shouts break, but doesn't break the fighters, he just expects them just to step back? I mean, do your job FFS, who in their right mind is going to want to step back when the ref shouts break, what about if the other guy does not cooperate when you and doesn't step back, then hits you? that's precisely why you supposed to physically break them up.
What's annoying with Foster is that on some occasions he's excellent. Groves vs DeGale was another example of highly competent refereeing. But when he's off, he's right down there with Michael Alexander and Terry O'Connor. If O'Connor had stopped the fight on Friday nowhere near as much would have been said, because it's a regular occurence - by that I mean **** officiating one way or the other. Foster is also a good judge too, that's worth noting. Amongst all the controversies of the past couple of years with shite cards he's very rarely at the centre of it.
