It really is a shame Calzaghe had ****ed up hands and wasn't able to punch with proper effect later on in his career. That Calzaghe VS Lacy fight was actually the fight that got me into boxing. I remember being up late one night and it was on ITV and I watched the entrances and was thinking "That scrawny little white guy is going to get SMASHED!" But little did I know...
I chose the Lacy fight, we all know now about Lacy but on the night i was gobsmacked by the dominance of Joe. Mitchell though, wow one of those fights where you wouldnt feel ripped off by a 2 round fight if youd paid PPV money for it.
I love how Calzaghe embarrassed the Lacy camp.. All the trash talk and hype they brought, and then they just got humiliated in front of the entire boxing world.... Classic... Btw shouldnt we just call the fight: "Cocky Americans got what they deserved" ??..
In terms of enjoying a dominant display of boxing, I have to go with Lacy. At the time I couldn't care less, but any time I watch the fight again these days I feel sorry for Jeff. When he stepped into the ring he had the world at his feet and 1 hour later it was all gone. He showed terrific heart that night but came up against an opponent at the top of his game and then some. In terms of entertainment, Eubank and Mitchell were great fights, even if the latter was short.
kessler one was brilliant, hard fought and the dane was a huge threat throughout (and actually finished the final round stronger). some excellent boxing on display and just a good solid match up. the brewer fight was a good un aswell from what i remember.......
