Who ruined Vargas?

theres been plenty of small guys with abnormal power for there size, Wilfredo gomez, Arguello, Duran, Sal Sanchez had an axe for a right hand, and the man in my avatar went against alot of guys giving the height, and size advantage being 5'6 not too short but faced alot of tall guys, his opponents would think there looking at a junkie and giggle inside, next thing you know you see him tap them with a right and they'd go down like a tree.

tito was always stupid skinny but really built, had some of the best conditioning, and people still claim he was ripped for joppy so there's no execuse for hopkins but the thjing is it was his first fight at 160 and he weighted 158lbs yet he was still close to his best weight but still was his first time, but for hopkins he ended up cutting more weighting in at 157 i think and he looked like hell for the fight. he just never belonged higher than 154, as for joppy that what he deserved for what he did to an old duran.

but honestly tito got ripped alot about the wrap subject, truth is trinidad senior always wrapped his hands that way, and never had any problems with any comission, the comission he fought in that night found it strange and told him to remove the wrap, when they did they didn't see anything wrong and basically said carry on for senior to re wrap. hopkins then came up with this bull**** that brain washed alot of people. if anything senior got into a rush into wrapping titos hand again before he was suppose to go out and when the fight was over and his gloves were removed his left hand looked like ****, lol. it was a terrible rewrap. but the comission found nothing wrong. only hopkins did, the man whos mouth always has trash coming out of it.

 

His chin was never the same after Trinidad, to be honest. His punch resistance diminished some from that fight.

 

accumulation of too many fights too soon.. after the tito fight he shouldve taken a longer greak and then fight some bums but he decided to keep fighting top guys.. boxing is not a kind sport

I would say Trinidad`s illegal handwrapping and low blows.

Tito fight and being too rushed into the deep end, what was the rush anyway? He was 21 or 22 when he became world champ, he could have become a great champion if he was managed corectly

you could say it goes all the way back to when he fought ross thompson and took shots from him while the guy weighed around 170

his trainer who claimed to love him like a son who refused to stop the fight as tito took him apart in the later rounds

life style obviously

bad managment who threw him to the wolves so to speak

bravado and too much of it too much a willingness to abandon the skills to go toe to toe
that will get a guy every time

 

Vargas in his prime would destroy Canelo.

He was never the same after Tito stopped him. He didn't become a bum overnight or anything but he was never able to perform to the standards he did that night, or the fights preceding it.

The back/weight/drug problems all shortened his career but Tito was most responsible for cutting his prime short.

 

Would you say he was gun shy?

 

If I may borrow a phrase from Vince McMahon, Vargas screwed Vargas.

I speculate that Vargas lost a touch of his self belief and invincibility after the Trinidad fight and he started to lose his dedication to training. His weight started fluctuating wildly between fights. He was busted for steroids in the Oscar fight and he seemed to keep slipping from there. I still considered him a dangerous foe throughout the end of his career. He only lost to the best around and there's no shame in that.

 

Trinidad no question...but still being thrown in with quartey 2 fight prior was not really beneficial to him either

 

but in hindsight...the man in 31 career fights faced prime/near prime versions of wright/quartey/trinidad/de la hoya/mosley/mayorga...ridiculous
