Angulo is coming up on a year of inactivity

It seemed like a much better match up a couple months ago.. But ghats when Ortiz heart was really being questioned, and he didn't have the physical gifts he seems to have gained in moving up.. Rios is no joke, but theres allot of size separating the two now.

 

Big deal he can fight in Monterrey, Mexico Showtime, Sky, TeleFutura, Fox Sports, then there is all the Mexican Channels.....We have fights that take place in other countries here all the time..

The guy can fight.

 

Angulo sucked....he was going no where.

 

Angulo represented Mexico in the Olypics they should market him and have him fight in Mexico...if he can get back to the states.....Arenas venue then have a Mexican Superfight....Where the Undercards and main event are all Mexican boxers with opponents from all over the world...Bill it as Mexico vs. The World

This guy was never any more impressive than Kirkland as a prospect, IMO. Same upside more or less as an exciting and brawny puncher, except with a much better chin.

Even if he were keeping a doggedly busy schedule and taking on the best, I feel he'd be leaning more in the direction of gatekeeper than champion.

 

Maybe, but I ain't buying their excuses for him not fighting me thinks that since he can't fight in the States, that the promoters know this, knowing that his options are narrowed.....are offering him **** now for his bouts and he refuses to fight....He can fight and stay active in Mexico there are alot of Boxing fan cities there, and even if he wanted to fight outside of Mexico Montreal is showing to be a decent fight town so he can make a name for himself in Canada....The guy still has options........The idea because he can't fight in the states means he can't fight is bull****.

 

He could definitely be headlining domestic cards (and getting televised). There is no good excuse. :good

 

As long as he is keeping himself in GYM shape & not letting himself "GO" he could be alright.
But a year lost is HUGE in boxing when a fighter is in their best years.

Incredibly weak division.

Cotto is #1 with a bullet, and the best up and comers are Lara, Trout, Martirosyan and Arron (not exactly a murderer's row). :verysad Other than that, ...

 

He's just too limited (more so than other Mexicans in his weight range; ie Rubio, D. Lopez, Gomez, and even Margarito have better boxing skills). He's had plenty of time by now to sharpen up his skill set beyond just "slugger" and hasn't shown any signs of it. :conf A lot of us just got sick of waiting for those extra dimensions to show up a while ago.

 

Ah, that's a juicy match-up. Saul has the raw ability to outclass Angulo if he makes the proper tweaks (specifically getting hit a lot less with open stuff up the middle...right hands in particular). I'm not sure the Reynosos are the right people to patch up those holes if they haven't already. We'll see if they've made any headway against Rhodes (although the southpaw stance presents its own problems and won't tell us much about his avoidance of straight rights...we should still be able to note if there is an increase in his defensive awareness). If not it might be time to clean house and make a change.

With some good coaching and erasing his bad habits, I can see Alvarez boxing Angulo's ears off. If he stays as susceptible to right hands as he's looked (especially against Hatton) Angulo could turn his lights out.
