Hopkins says he will honor his commitment

I'm happy this is happening, this is the right fight at the weight, plus I've been wanting it for some time now

 

On Pascal-Dawson, Pascal beat him hands down, he didn't cheat so it's wrong to discredit him in any way, full credit to him no questions asked. Yes I expected Dawson to whip him but he never so that's the end of that.

 

Me too. I don't understand why it didn't happen a couple years sooner.

Dawson is fundamentally sound, he just doesn't have that killer instinct. I believe his loss to Pascal was a fluke.

 

Daw's was a "Fluke" champion...... In the right place at the right time with an aging and drained 175 lb. Tarver baby in 2008 and '09..... WORD!

I actually told Pascal after the Froch-Dirrell fight that Dawson had a lot of exploitable defects. He assured me he wanted to 'unify the belts my friend'.

Lo and behold....;-)

 

I can see the evergreen Hopkins pulling out a decision here. With his crafty boxing. A modern day Archie Moore,for sure.

 

I will gain a great deal of respect for Hopkins taking on the talented proven young gun instead of going for the easier young gun in Bute. Although I think 1 of the big reasons BHOps is taking this fight is Bute seems to be tied up with a Showtime contract, its still commendable.

It's not just that Dawson is a bad style, he's allot better than anyone Hopkins has fought in a long time and the Pascal fight was a hickup

 

Dawson would be a good victory for hopkins. Obviously not as good as pascal was but I think right now dawson is the best fighter that hopkins could face.

I really have no desire to see bute fight hopkins. Bute is quite overrated atm and his recent opposition leaves a lot to be desired. I'd rather see hopkins take on dawson then cloud. Infact if he could go and unify this division as he did with the middleweights that would be amazing. I also wouldn't begrudge him fighting taylor for a third time.

Well I disagree I think Dawson is a hot and cold fighter, look at the Adamek fight for an example where he wasn't so laxidasical. That 1 is a great win for me, when you consider what he's done since and especially as Adamek beat a somewhat similar style in Cunningham

You can say the same thing about the first Johnson fight Fea but in both I don't think he was at his best and a Pascal rematch down the line should prove that

Hopkins hasn't faced anyone combining the technical skill and speed of a Dawson, bar Jones Jr, I include Calzaghe in that who in credit to him works/worked much harder

 

The Adamek fight is the only one I can think of PP It was impressive that he sat the Pole on his arse, but Dawson has been flattered by Adameks rise through some pretty barren divisions. U.S.S has always been decent but not much more IMO, and the HW contenders Adamek has easily outmanouvered top ten in this era (even then, old Grant? McBride?!?) but in no others.

Okay, Dawson beat Johnson more convincingly second time round. But I think Dawson has some decent attributes but it pretty one dimensional, IMO B-Hop will take the small workrate he has away and soundly outpoint him.

But it is an intriguing one, that's for sure, if Dawson can put it all together for one night the result is up in the air :good

 

Well this is Dawson's big shot he's been screming for since 08, he should be in the Adamek type form, although I do think he was better under FMS personally. It's somwhat understandable that he may have took his eye off the ball against Johnson/Pascal. The Tarver fighting was pretty impressive, Tarver was old, but cming off that Clinton Woods shutout win. Mentally I feel Dawson is a bit of a Lennox Lewis type

I am a Dawson fan so may be a little blinded, but his use of range, punch picking, combination punching, speed, counter punching, defense it's a great package. Yea I think allot of him and expect an ephatic passing of the torch followed by a superfight with Ward that Dawson pulls out, here's hoping Ward isn't with Showtime beyongthe Super 6
