are you saying Walcott, Charles, Moore & Louis at the time they fought Marciano was all better than Jack Dempsey who Tunney fought & beat?
Besides Patterson he cleaned out an entire division, I find your challenge of Liston Comical since you rate him in the same exact place as myself. Post #97 http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9486118#post9486118
Yeah, thats what Im saying. I have no doubt any of those guys could have won more than 2 out of 20 rounds against Tunney.
laughable .. once again are you saying Walcott, Charles, Moore & Louis at the time they fought Marciano was all better than Jack Dempsey who Tunney fought & beat..yes or no?
You just derided him for only beating Patterson. Get real! The guy cleaned out a division. Thats much more than Tunney did.
What is the point trying to debate with you when you make statements like this.. Louis was completely shot, Charles and Moore was both masquerading at Heavyweight when their best days was at 160-175lbs and Walcott was years past his best and in no way anywhere near as good as the Dempsey who Tunney fought and who leveled Jack Sharkey.. you are a HATER who is proving it right here in your comments.
Thats a matter of circumstance. Had he not been ducked for 3 years he would have been champion much longer. Either way he cleaned out an entire division.
All were at the top of the division, you cannot change that. Just as you can't change that Dempsey wasn't good enough anymore to win more than 2 rounds.
take away Louis and we are left with Charles, Walcott & Moore... Charles went 11-12 after losing to Marciano, Walcott never fought again and Moore was years past his best and had no success at Heavyweight... Dempsey was the Heavyweight Champion when Tunney fought him and beat future Heavyweight champion Jack Sharkey in his very next fight before losing to Tunney again. so it is fare to say that Tunney had a better championship resume than Marciano or Liston
no it is not better than what Tunney did. Gene Tunney fought and beat the best there was to beat, he then beat the reigning champion twice as well as the No1 contender for his crown.. Tunney then retired with an amazing resume of 66-1-1 with no contender left to fight. http://news.google.co.uk/newspapers...MAAAAIBAJ&pg=4120,519468&dq=gene+tunney&hl=en Yet he was garbage in your opinion and unworthy of being ranked in the Top 10
Walcott was champion. Charles was ranked #2 and Moore was ranked #1. You can claim Tunney has a better resume but it just isn't so. It lacks depth and longevity, and he didn't clean out division the way Marciano and Liston did. Next!!
Lol, this is why you're a complete joke, you look at things like a fanboy instead of an objective boxing fan. I've NEVER called Tunney "garbage", but his resume simply doesn't support a top 10 ranking at heavyweight. Im sorry but 2 fights against an inactive Dempsey doesn't give you enough push to be ranked that high. Both Marciano and Liston beat the reigning champion twice. Cleaned out all the top contenders. Tunney could have done this but he chose to retire. You simply dont get points for that.
