I was just thinking about the Tates (Frank and Thomas) yesterday...

I have a hard time getting a good hold of Taylor, as he fell apart like wet tissue after the Pavlik fights.

I think, though, at his best, when he was still fresh, Taylor has the skill and pop to give Tate trouble and take a decision. I don't think I would put a lot of money on it.

Tate was a better schooled. more elusive harder hitting Taylor in some ways.

He likewise often didn't seem sure of his own skillset or what style he wanted to employ, but he should have more than enough to comfortably decision Taylor in a competitive entertaining fight or knock him out late.

Watching stuff like Tate vs a faded Sibson or Olajide in comparison to taylor vs Ouma and Spinks should give you an idea of the greater skillset and talent Tate had overall, though won't necessarily give you the key to a fight against each other.

Tate vs. Taylor is an even fight. One of those fights I am not sure of. Probably Taylor. Tate messed up a few times against Nunn and Lindell Holmes and Virgil Hill, guys Taylor might have done ok against or at least hung in with.

    Lora basically summed it up.

Tate was more skilled, and talented than dopey ass Taylor, and would have UD'd him.

Prime Nunn would have wiped his ass with Taylor.

I could see Taylor taking this.Tate was a weird boxer-he had all the skills in the world but he had alot of mental lapses.

Taylor at his best had a much better jab then Tate.

Taylor had **** stamina, and the IQ of a fence post.

Tate's performance against Olijidae is more impressive than any of Taylor's performances.

Tate was good at a lot of things, but not an expert at anything. I was a fan, but, man, Nunn just owned him.

Taylor at his best was just a better, more effective fighter than Tate.

Sometimes, fighters just don't have long primes. Taylor had a stretch difficult fights that I think burned him out early. The Hopkins fights were grueling, as well as the Wright fight. I think these fights took a lot out of Taylor. The Ouma fight was also a tough one for Taylor. He took quite a bit of punishment, and some fighters are just not made to take lots of punushment before they deteriorate.

Tate was good, but not special, while Jermain on his best day would own him.

    good posts guys.......

I think Tate had a better jab than Taylor, and would beat him like Pavlik did in the second fight.......Tate was much more skilled than Pavlik, of course.....

The Taylor of the Hopkins fights narrowly outpoints Tate.
