If both DeGale's parents were black do you think he would have outslicked and outclassed Groves to a lop-sided decision or late KO ? (Don't jump on me for this, I'm only asking ...... :rofl)
Jesus there is some shite talked on here. I was sat beside Spencer for the fight. I heard no racist chanting, abuse, slurs anything. So I assume he heard nothing of that nature either. So, I dont know where he was coming from with the "question" he threw out there because I didnt sense any real racially motivated agenda behind the support for Groves - although that is not to say that there wasnt any. I also think it is a little bit of a cop-out of Spences behalf to hide behind the "it was a question, not my opinion" line. However, do I think that Spencer thought that some of the negative attention that DeGale attracts was to down to race? Yes. Do I think that some of the negative attention that DeGale attracts was to down to race? Yes. Do I think that the vast majority of the negative attention that DeGale attracts was to down to race? No. It's because he portrays himself as a disrespectful schoolyard bully. Do I think Spencer is racist? No. I do think that he is very "race aware" and sensitive about the subject but that is different to being racist. Being a racist in my mind means that you he preconceived negative opinions about a person based purely on their skin colour, nationality or ethnicity. Spencer has proven time and time again that this isnt what he is a about. One Love! :good
i'd like to see spencer fearon distance himself from some of the comments made by his pal anthony small(or whatever the **** he's calling himself this week.)i'd argue that anyone who claims to be a close friend of small must harbour some pretty distasteful, twisted racist views.
I'm surprised this is even a story, to be honest. I think it's all a bit of a laugh, it's a shame people are getting so serious about it. If Spencer Fearon asked a stupid question on Facebook, so what ? Who is this Spencer Fearon anyway ? People acting like he's the Prime minister or something. Bring back Larry Holmes and Alan Minter .... those were true champions of stupid - and properly racist - comments ! :good
Yeah I agree mate. Some of the crap he's come out with is as bad as what Omar Bakri Mohammed said, when he left the UK he wasn't allowed back. They just need to deport that other ****, Anjem Choudary and we'd be much better off. Small is just thick as ****, always has been.... but he's never been dangerous like he is now. MI5 will obviously be watching him but I'd go a step further in the current climate and shove him behind bars. Not worth taking the chance, it's only a matter of time before he does something incredibly stupid.
Thats exactly what he did, when he accused a predominantly White english crowd of boxing fans of being racist, based on nothing but his own prejudice Showed his true colours
No he didn't!! Let me ask you this. Do you think ANY of the reaction toward DeGale had anything to do with race? I think a small element of it was.
No, I think it has to do with him being a **** in the lead up. I'm not so sure thats the whole James DeGale anyways, it was a PPV fight and he did his part in selling it. It was the classic bad vs good battle that sold itself well to the public, plus George took on the role of the underdog. I still reckon if George had James' personality and vise-versa the support would have been the opposite way round.
Why would I ? Why do you? In your own words, you saw no evidence of it So you are basing it on prejudice, plain and simple.
Perhaps it was. We'll always have racism, but I don't think DeGale was ''targeted'' anymore than other fighters are due to skin colour. This isn't aimed at you, but I think many people fail to realise that racism does work both ways...... it's just an unfortunate fact of life I'm afraid. Certainly where I come from racism isn't a particularly big problem, despite for instance three of the 7/7 bombers being raised less than a mile from where I'm currently typing..... it's just a question of attitude I suppose, some people are just wired like that. If racism was such an issue fighters like David Haye wouldn't enjoy the popularity that they currently do, nor would Amir Khan - though I think some of the ''hate'' he gets is racially motivated.
