Question about Kostya Tszyu

Does anybody remember when KT was involved in a Jr Welter Weight Tourney back in the day for the Vacant WBC title?
I think that was one of the most loaded tourneys in recent times better than the super six IMO, and better than the feather tourney we have got.
These were all the top Jr Middles fighting each other for that title...
if you do remember this could you please fill me in on all the fighters who competed in this tourney.
I know Miguel Angel Gonzales was for sure... But I cant remember all of them as this was years ago

I don't remember Kostya winning the title in a tournament. The way I remember it, he fought Hurtado for the vacant title when Oscar moved up to 147 before defending it against Gonzalez.

 

it was a tourney and I think he won that title from Gonzalez, the vacant one, it was on Fox at the time when they hosted Sunday night fights, or Fight night at the Forum... some **** like that.

That is what he said. And then he unify by beating Judah a few fights later. I don't recall a tournament though.

 

you cant unify an interm belt... its not The title.... anyhow I wished there was more information on this, they had about six fighters or more involved in this tourney... maybe more its been so long.. anyhow I have been trying to find the information cus I would like to find those fights.

 

Interim, Vacant, then Title "in his case" next he unify the title beating Judah.

 

Still don't understand how he lost to Phillips he must of been out of shape or something.

 

Won the interm from Hurtado, fought Gonzalez for the WBC on showtime I think whats that cats name from back in the day Sean O'Grady? I think he was calling the fights during that time.. **** I am getting old..

i don't remember any tournament taking place. but if it did, i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to work out using boxrec.

 

it wasnt like your super six tourney, it was basicly the top guys boxing each other to earn a shot at the title DLH vacated when he moved up to welter..

 

I am not making any excuses like Kostya did not make either but Vince Philips was not all that bad when he fought Kostya.. it is not reason to lose but he was not bum or anything...
