Fitz power is overrated, common opponents said Choynski hit harder

Maybe choynski did; he certainly kicked the **** out of johnson.

I still don't think jones ever faced anyone with fitz's power.

I still don't think that jones has a solid enough chin to take flush shots from fitz. Then again over 12 rounds I think jones has the speed and agility to evade his attacks.

I think to completely write off the chances of one of the greatest fighters in history is naive at best.

This is what people who don't box don't understand, it's not just about how hard you hit, it's about hitting and not being hit, it's about accuracy, landing first

Personally without sounding arrogant I could knock out pretty much anyone if given a free shot, allot of men can, especially at HW, give Danny Williams a free shot at any chin and he's knocking them all out. It's being able to land that punch in a fight that's the hard thing to do.

Roy Jones is better at landing big punches than Fitz, in terms of having the speed, timing, accuracy to do so and it isn't close. The only way Fitz is getting out of the early rounds is if he runs or Jones plays with him

Fitz isn't 1 of the greatest fighters in the history of the sport H2H, he's the best of his time and a pioneer, the sport obviously progressed after his time. Even Carl Froch who is technically bad today is technically better than Fitz in a few ways

So do you believe wlad klitschko to be the greatest heavyweight h2h ever? How about martinez as the greatest h2h middleweight?

In a sport which pits one man against another there are no certainties. You say fitz won't catch jones, I say given enough time he would.

As for the whole h2h debate: utterly futile compiling h2h lists because anything can happen on a given day.

The reason I don't argue this too passionately is because we'll never see these two fight hence there is no right answer. All down to opinions.

Who'd have thought that prime jones would smack griffin when he was down and lose? Who'd have thought that a still seemingly elite jones would get knocked out by one punch from tarver?

Who'd have thought schmelling would "see something"

These debates are often fun and enlightening but not to be taken seriously :)

Just to open a can of worms: jones Vs jack dempsey? Who you have?

Oh, I see this thread turned into a "PP-s*cks-Jones-dick" kinda thing. How surprising.

Nah, he missed out on more than DM. He came as close as one can in these days though. I don´t really fail him for not fighting DM. I don´t rate fighters on who they didn´t fight but on who they fought. Jones couldn´t establish as the universally recognized man at lhw, that´s a knock on his accomplishments.

The only ones of those that I´s call legends are Hopkins, Jones, Holyfield, Pac and DLH. The rest will go down as atgs but I wouldn´t call them legends.

EM not so much. I think Maidana was his swansong. I hope he retires soon.

    Very much agreed.

I´ve got Holyfield just outside of my Top30, at 32, as the third highest of the last 20 years, both Whitaker and Pac maky my Top25. DLH isn´t in my Top50. Don´t know about MAB, never went past 50.

    Not mine.

I think you overrate his wins over Hopkins and Toney but overall you´ll have it right. I rank Jones higher than you though, at 39.

No I don't think the sport is at it's absolute peak today, I said it was in its infancy in 1890s, it was a semi-pro sport with a tiny talent pool and technically primitive fighters. Technically the sport advanced and was far better in the 1920s as it grew in terms of competition, there were more boxing clubs, more fights, the technical skills probably peaked/platued around the 1940s. Today their are less top trainers, less boxing gyms, less than in previous years, it has certainly declined since the 1990s. However yes Wlad is an ATG H2H and fighting him with his physical advantages, skills and athletic ability is a nightmare

Fitz's stance/movement/hand positioning and poor balance are big expoitable weaknesses, you can bring up Tarver but Tarver is technically far better than Fitz. He was good for his time but as Einstein said his knowledge was built upon the shoulders of other men, the same for boxing technique, it developed. Fitz was great for his time, would he be great today with the exact same style? No his style would be exploited and not just by the elite. But fighters today have the benefit of a better boxing knowledge base. In turn though that knowledge is being lost as their are less trainers passing the lessons of boxing on over the generations

You bring up Schmelling and Louis, but Schmelling was a master boxer and puncher. It's a fair point though that 'anything can happen in boxing'

Miske/Tunney outboxed Dempsey for decision, so yes Jones Jr certainly could, Dempsey could KO Jones though because Dempsey's better and bigger than Fitz, but in terms of in the ring weight isn't really bigger than the LHWs Jones was fighting, I know for a fact Clinton Woods was 192lb in the ring for many of his LHW fights and he was far from the biggest LHW

 Is this the best comeback you can come up with 2days after being exposed as a disingenuous fraud of a poster, yet again

Comeback? From what? Sorry, I didn´t read your posts and neither do I intend to. Your post stimply aren´t worth my time - at least as long as they somehow related to Jones.

Depends on your definition of clearing out really. I'd say dm was the only other man who could claim to be world champ.

A definite knock, I agree. Slightly helped by his victory over gonzalez but would be much better had he beaten himself.

Depends on what you define a legend as, i'd say top 25 atg or top 10 in a weightclass.

I'd have loved jmm to fight em instead of diaz but it didn't happen. I though em drew with maidana but he's surely now a top ten lightwelterweight, I think he has more left in the tank.

Well I haven't ranked past 30 yet so i'm not sure exactly where jones will sit in that list. As for overrating victories, a man usually gets judged on the atg's he defeated. I think both the atg's that jones defeated are amazing and he was the only man to dominate them. Now I'm not sure he was the best fighter of the 90's but that's another debate.

Maybe 2011 Barcelona wouldn't be able to do much with the heavy leather ball and on the ****ed up pitch.

Well, he didn´t fight the man who got stripped of his title just to award it to Jones. That fight should have happened. Roy would have won but Rocky would have been outside of Hill his best win at lhw, on par with Tarver.

Definitly. And the DM Gonzalez beat was quite past it too.

Legends are the ones who did or brought something special. Hopkins´ late career success, Jones´ dominance and athleticism, Holyfield´s combination of cw and hw resume and longevity, Pac´s weightjumping in success in this era, DLh´ssuccess, fame and attention for boxing. Tyson belong´s there too, I´d say, Whitaker of course too. But that´s just me, certainly debatable. :thumbsup

Agreed on the first part. Guess we´ll see, hope he won´t end up getting hurt or something.

On paper they are. Great wins. Look deeper into the and they are less impressive. Still very good wins, especially the Toney one, though.

Ahhhh is that your excuse about lying about Rochiagani and Jones Bodhi  You've commented on posts before that expose your lies though and yet keep repeating those same lies, why could this be :think You're usually the most active in Jones threads with your obvious agenda

Except you ignore that Rocchigiani pulled out of the fight as has been proven in this thread and the fact he was never that good in the first place, not as good as Tarver, Griffin, Hill or Reggie Johnson. Keep running from the truth bodhi :hi:

Bottom line: WBC supports Rocchigiani that he didn´t pull out and that he get´s the fight with Jones if not Jones will be stripped.

If you don´t believe me, look for someone who speaks German and can translate it for you.

    Oh, and here an article that confirms that Jones avoided Rocchigiani;

Guess we agree on most things.

I don't think rocky would have been one of his best wins tho, I never rated him that highly.

Gonzalez definitely beat a faded dm, same with sugar boy beating a faded benn. These are the versions we wanted jones himself to face considering timeline.

Save em discussion for another thread.

Look, I think hopkins and toney are jones best wins. I think compounded with his lhw resume it's enough to place him top 50.
