He has doubts about beating a C-level fighter who was made to look like a fool against a domestic-level Brit Super featherweight, but would go onto fight and beat the most dangerous puncher of the 140 division? Don't really make sense to me. I think it's more of a case of Khan being on the verge of fighting better and more recognised opponents in these next 12 or so months. Guys which he could possibly lose to at some point. And when he loses to them, he needs a fight which will propel him back into the public's good books. Prescott is a good fight to do that. Save him for when he really needs him, because right now, he is irrelevant.
khan definitely isnt too keen on rematching precott, he should do it but it isnt necesary, he will be at 147 soon and way too big and prescott will probably not rise higher so the fight will become irrelevant soon, if I was khan I would have fought him instead of mcclosky to prove it was a fluke.
It might not be relevant to you, were the most relevant fights are the one's with the most money or for paper world titles. I'm a throw back boxing fan, can you seriously tell me that 20/30 years ago these guys wouldn't have had a rematch already? We would be talking about a triology. Enjoy watching Khan fight the likes of McCloskey or washed up old champions :good I personally want to see him avenge his only loss and I know I'm not the only one.
yeah sorry I was wondering myself if he was Scottish. Look I'm borderline hard-core fan and I had never watched the guy or heard of him. Everybody knows Prescott after the Khan fight and I'm sure that the fight was going to sell a lot better with the redemption story behind it. Instead they chose an awkward opponent that it's very hard to look good against. They've made an error because Prescott is very winnable fight for Khan at this point an at 140
I like how you know everything about me after reading a handful of my posts. I only watch the big money bouts, and I only watch bouts when "world titles" are on the line. I don't try to watch as much boxing as I can, I don't stay up until 4-5-6 in the morning of weekends to watch bouts in America, etc. I don't watch every Saturday fight night. I'm not that type of boxing fan, am I? It is not 20-30 years ago. McCloskey was not the best fight out there, but neither was the Prescott bout. Fair enough, but just because you want to see it, does not make it relevant.
I agree, Khan would make him look silly at this point. And they possibly could have just thrown Khan back in with Prescott for a big PPV. But I wouldn't say Prescott would have earned his shot, whereas McCloskey had defended the European belt in impressive fashion...twice. The best time for the Khan-Prescott rematch would have been after Khan had beaten Barrera, or maybe instead of that match-up. But Prescott was tipped to continue to move on, not be defeated by Vazquez. And no chance they were going to throw Khan straight back in with a guy who KO'd him in one. Like I've said, if Prescott can tick a few decent names off at 140lbs, the bout can become relevant again.
Save the sob story. Just because you don't want to see a Prescott rematch, does not make it irrelevant. We can all be smart ass's
I dont get why khan fans dont want him to rematch prescott and avenge his defeat, its actually pretty good for his legacy if he easily dominates prescott and knocks him out.
Sob story? When was I trying to be a smart ass? You have come back with nothing to support your argument that the bout is relevant other than that you would like to see it.
Did you read my first post? I clearly said Khan should want to avenge his loss therefore the fight is relevant. So what if Prescott is not a superstar in boxing or doesn't bring any monetary value or titles to the table - boxing is a business I know, but it is still boxing at the end of the day. Prescott brutally KO'd Khan in less than a minute, anyone who does not want to avenge a loss like that raises serious questions in my books.
how is it not relevant? Amir Khan may exceed Prescot's career accomplishments 10 fold but Prescot will always be seen as the superiour fighter out of the two. People want to see this fight because they want to know whether or not Khan can actually beat this guy. Prescot- 1 Khan- 0
After the Prescott bout, Khan's chin was completely written off...he was said to be avoiding big punchers, and he would continue to do this. He was supposedly avoiding Maidana, considered the biggest puncher at 140lbs at the time by many. Khan took the fight, and took some big shots. This IMO is enough to rid someone of whatever demons, insecurities they have. So no, just because Prescott KO'd him in less than a minute, does not always keep the bout relevant. If Prescott would have continued to win, and maybe even if he was still undefeated at this time with some good names on his resume...the bout would definitely be relevant for Khan at this time. But that didn't happen. Torrecampo recently came out of retirement, does that mean a bout with Pacquiao is still relevant, just because Torrecampo stopped him? An extreme example, but oh well.
