Lets assume that McCall doesn't lose that fight to Bruno and he gets the shot at Tyson in 96 how do you guys see this one going.. McCall though I am not sure how big of a threat he poses for Tyson brings many things to the table that Bruno did not.. 1. In McCall you have a man with a Granite Chin. 2. He knows Mike pretty well from his years of sparring with the man. 3. McCall always seemed to be well conditioned. Those are 3 clear things that distinguish him from Bruno, I don't think he had as heavy a punch as Bruno, but Bruno was so big and muscled by that second Tyson fight he couldn't throw a strait punch (other then a flicking jab) to save his life.. This thread is not at all to compare the two TYSON and MCCALL, its more about what would this fight look like, does anyone give McCall as shot or would Tyson roll right through him???
Mcall was limited and a horrible finisher. He should have been able to finish Bruno in the last two round when he had nothing left. Mcall would have been a punching bag for Tyson, but he would have been there for 12 rounds and probably would have prepared Tyson better physically for Holyfield.
Yeah this is more then likely what I see happening as well, McCall was tough and durable, but he was not a puncher he seemed to out condition alot of the fighters he beat, I remember watching him beat the unbeaten at the time prospect Seldon and Bruce just wore out as McCall just kept coming, McCall scored 2 knockdowns on nothing punches and just wore him out.. I think you either have to be a decent puncher or at least be able to push the pace and force your will on Tyson and I'm not sure McCall could do that.. But he would have put up a better effort then Bruno that I know for sure..
Mcall was not a better boxer than Bruno, but his durability would have been far better and far more desireable for a fighter working his way back into condition. Seldon was complete ****. He had a very good jab and decent righthand, but he was a mental midget with no chin.
Yeah I agree I am just saying in terms of style McCall would have fared better then Frank at that point.. But yeah Frank is much, much more polished and definitely early in his career, he just tired late in fights or his chin would let him down..
I know all about the reputation of his chin but I reckon McCall gets knocked out or stopped on his feet. That video footage of him quiting and wincing as Tyson hit him with a bodyshot and the massive skill differential means he's taking a hammering here. Then I remember Bruno seriously stunning him with a single right hand. He supposedly has the best chin ever because Lennox was very cautious and he used to be Tyson's sparring partner, yes he has a very good chin, but no chin is unbreakable and he'd take too much punishment here
You saying Bruno was not well conditioned?:huh As for the question. I would think Tyson would just wear down McCall, probably stopping him in a half a dozen fairly one sided rounds.
Bruno was in great shape as he trained hard for all fights, but yes he always wore out in fights.. He would exhaust himself it seemed I am not sure if it had something to do with all those muscles or what but he would always tire, he was dead on his feet at the end vs McCall..
If ever a fighter was too well conditioned it was Bruno. Like you suggest the amount of oxygen needed to keep them muscles going, hurt Bruno's stamina. Bruno was out on his feet in the final round of the McCall, I was screaming at McCall to get the job done, but he just could not be bothered. That is in part why he would not beat Tyson. He would be in sparring partner mode, trying just to survive. Tyson in 96 would batter him into submission.
Bruno's stamina problem was probably mostly mental/nervous, rather than physical. He used up a lot of nervous energy, was very tense - simply because he wasn't very good. Mental weakness, I guess.
Thats an interesting thought - Tyson with the mindset that it might be a long haul fight - Wonder if boxing history would have been changed that much
Yeah a long fight may have helped Mike against Holyfield, but Holyfield would still have won, he was ready for Mike then and Mike I'm not sure was quite as ready for Holy and it showed in the ring...
McCall gets hammered early, and works his way back into the fight when Mike begins to fade. Loses a fairly wide clearly UD, but he would definitely be coming on strong late. Mike never went rounds without looking like fading again, I don't think he had it in him anymore, and without his body attack he's not stopping Oliver.
