It seems there was an interesting scene of fighters being made here. Clever guys, with frustrating boxing styles seems to be the product of this area....Some of them having rivalries with Greb and Dempsey.. Anyone have more information on these fighters, related boxers, and the St. Paul style?

What is St Paul boxing, a gym? If so it sounds like an excellent 1 with Miske having a good argument for beating Dempsey and O'Dowd & the Gibbons bros both beating Greb, amongst their other achievements

Don't forget Gibbons protege Jock Malone. He couldn't get past Walker and Flowers but was always a rough night at the office. A top tier middleweight contender.

Biographical information was taken from the collection and from the opening chapters of Barton's book, My Lifetime in Sports (Minneapolis, 1957).

Read this book. Its all in here!

S, for many years I have tried to find the book, My Lifetime in Sports by George Barton in book stores and libraries, to no avail.
George Barton knew Billy Miske well during Miske's dying days from Bright's Disease, and wrote a heart wrenching story of Miske's last Christmas...
Is the book now available ?

Maybe a little bit about the origins of the scene and the characteristics behind the styles themselves. I haven't seen any film of O'Dowd or Miske and i was wondering if maybe they shared a little bit stylewise with Tommy(and obviously Mike, but I can't comment on that at the moment).

There was footage of Miske training for Dempsey on youtube at one point. Think it was rareboxing's video.

George Barton reporting ringside for the Minneapolis Tribune on Charlie Burley vs Shorty Hoage
sez....this is a fighter the likes of which we haven't seen in this town since Mike Gibbons and Jock Malone. Mike you expect but Malone?? He's never discussed.
