If fights back then were 15 rounds: how long would jack johnson have lasted as champ?

In your opinion how highly should we think of Firpo since an old man Johnson was able to school him so thoroughly he was thrown out of camp?

 

I think langford had a decent chance up until he lost to fulton. Then i'd say fulton himself has a decent chance.

I think in 1919 the first out of greb or dempsey to get to him would defeat him.

 

I see Firpo as a very dangerous puncher, who never really mastered the rudiments of boxing and how to set a man up for the quietus.

The sort of fighter who would be meat and drink for a prime Johnson.
Ridiculing a fighter over a few rounds of sparring ,and repeating it over a scheduled fight are different things entirely.Greb v Dempsey?


Its entirely possible Firpo might have managed to land one of his swipes over say,15rds, when Jack would presumably have slowed down considerably.
Bottom line ,Firpo had heavy duty power ,enough to put a great fighter like Dempsey clean out of the ring.

I don't think it is a negative towards Firpo ,so much as a positive towards an old Johnson.:good

 

I not sure who would win in a 15 round fight, both Jess and Jack KNEW they had 45 rounds, and Johnson try to blast Willard out early, while Willard waited his time for the later rounds.

Just because Willard was inactive in the first 15 plus rounds does not mean he will be for a shorter fight. I think Willard will fight like he did vs Moran, highly active, useing his jab and keeping Johnson at arms away.

I was not impress with Willard vs Johnson, but vs Moran, Willard look impressive, even being on the ropes and ducking and weaving away from Moran's punchings.

He had a other stragic vs Moran, because it was a ten round fight.

I dont know lol. It would not be the same fight in a 15 round fight. He does have the size and reach to pull it off. Were Johnson had a close fight vs Moran, Willard control the his fight with Moran from the get go.

I am not sure if Willard will win a shorter fight, just saying you cant base it off of there 26 rounds they did fight vs what will happen in a shorter fight. I am pretty sure Willard will be more active in a 15 round fight. I not sure he would beat Johnson or not, he does have the tools to pull it off, he is a highly underated fighter. Johnson is not Jack Dempsey in punching power, and its not a 45 round fight, so I think Willard will step up the pace eariler than he did in there fight. Just saying you cant count Willard out if it was a 15 rounder.

 

I think a 37 year old johnson still only loses if he's knocked out and I don't think jess stops him within the limit.

I'm not saying i diagree with you, but i guess that Dempsey certainly would, being as though he avoided him like the plague, flat out ducked him.
