Holyfield proved to be better than Tyson's opponents but I think (and someone mentioned this) that tasting defeat helped him realize his limitations and having the experience at Heavyweight with the division's top fighters prepped him to be able to deal with the adversity he would inevitably face. Everyone says the formula to be Tyson is simple. And then they get hit. Holyfield was going to be in trouble at some point against a 1991 Tyson. Win or lose he was going to face adversity. His experience at that point especially being undefeated was simply insufficient for the caliber of fighter that Mike was.
Shame ******* greedy King didn't want the Holy fight as you recently explained here, becuase he couldn't get his precious options if Holy came out victorious. King repeats how he doesn't want Holy as an opponent for Tyson in the post-fight interview with Pacheco. Not sure how many were broken. King should have tried not to be so greedy and just get a rematch clause and thats it. Same thing prevented Tyson and Foreman from fighting.
I totally agree, alas King is a dispicable scumbag whose greed has no limits. Tyson-Foreman, followed by Tyson-Holy in '91 would have been Heavyweight brawling bliss.
King ran his business like a cult. You couldnt get close to his main fighters and he surrounded them with his people. If he found out you were whispering in their ear he would eliminate you.
I think this Holyfield, still with Duva and Benton in the corner would utilize movement and out box Mike.. I think that was the plan they had all along to beat Tyson, the fight would look much different then the actual fight thay had much later on.. Tyson would have his moments and more then likely either already have the crowd or win them over, with his aggression. By the end Holyfield would be the clear winner on points though it would be close and some would say Mike came at him all night, but Holyfield would own the punch stat and the cards I see it 115-113ish everyone would call for a rematch and assume Tyson would eventually catch up to him the second time around..
Logic says Holy would beat Tyson about 7 times out of 10, maybe more. For some reason, I think Tyson would have done better if they fought back in 1991 and possibly stop Holy. Tyson rocked Evander in a few occasions during their first fight.
Holyfield wins this. It might be slightly more competitive than their 1996 fight, but the result is the same - Holyfield by late TKO
Holyfield would have won. I can't see how the Tyson of 1991 can improve so much that he actually turns the tables and beats Holyfield. I think this version of Holyfield is more nimble on his feet and a bit quicker with his hands too. His chin is pretty much the same for good measure. Both fighters are, slightly, better.
