Take the top 3 from June of these two years - Muhammad Ali v Larry Holmes Joe Frazier v Pinklon Thomas George Foreman v Tony Tubbs
'75 Ali was well past prime and had a lot of miles on the clock. '85 Holmes was also looking a little shopworn, but I think he had more in the tank than '75 Ali. Holmes UD15 Ali If Ali was on the downside in '75 then Frazier was moreso. Thomas blew hot and cold but '85 Pinklon at 100% has a little too much for this version of Frazier. Thomas SD15 Frazier I'm not really sure what to make of Big George's initial career post-Zaire. He never seemed to show he improved versus boxers, but I'm not convinced Tubbs was ever quite good enough to frustrate or extend Foreman. George would catch up with Tony eventually and end it. Foreman TKO5 Tubbs
Interesting view. I agree to differ here. Such is the beauty of debate. Ali v Holmes. In Ali's timeframe of June 1975,he was yet to beat an inspired Joe Frazier in Manilla. He definitely had more left than the Holmes who's just struggled past Carl Williams, and had the first Michael Spinks loss ahead of him in September. Frazier v Thomas Joe still had more than enough left to beat Thomas.
The Ali/Holmes encounter could possibly end up in a draw. Frazier/Thomas would be a split decision for Frazier, and Tony could possibly pull off the upset over George, at his best time frame, he managed to stay away from Teofilio Stevenson for the entire 3 rounds, so if he could do that for the first five, he has the upper advantage.
Muhammad Ali v Larry Holmes - IDK Joe Frazier v Pinklon Thomas - IDK George Foreman v Tony Tubbs - Foreman by KO
Close call with Ali/Holmes, both are shopworn, both are cagey vets. I will take the middle road and say Holmes by SD. I don't think Holmes will have to go find Ali at this stage like he did with Spinks. Frazier is shot here, sorry. Thomas. UD Foreman's poison is shifty opponents, supposedly. Tubbs poison is crack cocaine and donuts. I'm going to say Foreman still has enough mental stability to find and dispatch Tubbs.
Ali would have enough to edge Holmes by MD.Thomas would beat Frazier by UD in a close fight.Tubbs would score an upset by shutting out George 10 or 11 rounds out of 15 for a UD.
I maybe a bit too nostalgic here but I'll go with the "75 3 over the "85 3. Ali of Manila still looked pretty damn good to me...as did Frazier. After that they were done but not before so thet both win thier respective fights. Foreman would have a tougher time with Tubbs but I have faith that he would end it at some point.
Frazier ( and by implication then, Ali) shot by June 75 ? This content is protected Declined from their best years perhaps, but far from shot. They both still had Manila ahead of them. And while George was never the same after the rumble, he still would have had enough for Tubbs. All three lads from the 70s prevail here.
Muhammad Ali W 15 Larry Holmes - Both are past it but Holmes is really slowing down - got a controversial decision over Carl Williams and would soon lose to Michael Spinks. Ali, who has not fought the 3rd fight with Frazier yet has more left. He is 33, and had the three year break. Holmes is 36. Joe Frazier W 15 Pinklon Thomas - Joe would outwork Thomas after rolling under Thomas's excellent jab. Thomas would soak up Joe's Hook, though w/out getting hurt. Tony Tubbs W 15 George Foreman - Tubbs was at his absolute peak and had a style similar to Jimmy Young, who gave Foreman fits. Remember, this is post-Ali Foreman.
75 wins 3-0 even if you exchange the rivals.. 85 holmes is not even the best of this group.actually i think that he was the worst (85 holmes)it is why he avoided these guys
No quite. He fought one of the greatest fights in history in Oct of that year. Pinklon was a good fighter but I don't think he could take the heat Joe was bringing that night.
