Did Bruce Seldon have the ability to give Tyson a good fight?

Nope. Tyson could have knock out Seldon in 1 round every day of the week.

I remember a Ring Magazine saying that Seldon only aspired to be the Heavyweight Champ of Atlantic City.... I believe Bowe took him out in 2, also...

    Nice jab, though.

I remember Bowe tried to make a wager with Tyson to see if he could dispose of Seldon faster than he did, and if I'm correct, it took Tyson the exact amount of time.

    Nope.

If you are constructing an ideal opponent for Mike Tyson, look no further. A short heavy that holds his hands low. Brings them back low. No right hand to speak of. Holds that chin straight up in the air. Adequate but not good foot movement. Cannot fight well backing up and far less effective. Zero head movement and minimal upper body movement. No iron set of whiskers. Never in a high pressure bout against a big puncher and finisher.

How's that guy going to deal with that early Tyson aggression and 2 handed assault? With that defense, how does that opponent make Mike Tyson inaccurate and discourage Mike from winging away? And that's not even addressing the fouling part of things that Tyson resorts to. Anyone seeing a Seldon reacting or coping well with that part of things?

I think he could've kept Mike busy for a few rounds with keepaway stuff, Seldon has such a good jab and mobility. But it would've been a bit like Tyson-Biggs ultimately, you could still only see the 'phony war' lasting so long and it ending one way.

Sad the way he cracked, though. The kind of thing that can utterly overshadow your entire career, all those years of hard work...and did.

Let's be honest, he had a weird one previously with Riddick Bowe. I'm not 100% convinced of that either.
Seldon seemed strangely attracted to the canvas.

Seldon could box pretty well if he wasnt bothered, but put a little pressure on him and he falls apart. He almost blew against Joe Hipp in his tunep before Tyson.

Seldon definitely faked the jelly legs routine at the end of the Tyson fight.

That's always made me wonder how genuine his canvas crawling distress routine was against Bowe.

In my honest opinion, Bruce Seldon was bad for boxing.
For him to become a viable contender and a "world champion" not only shows how dire the heavyweight division already was in the mid-90s, but shows the criminal genius of Don King.

That Bowe performance smelled bad, the Tyson one was toxic sewage.

In all fairness he did a better job beating up Tony Tucker than Lennox Lewis did.

Never have i seen a man get into the ring with so much fear...a certain amount we all know is healthy, but he fell without getting hit..it was disgraceful.

Maybe. He also got rocked once or twice, and Tucker was even older and in worse shape than against Lewis.
That was Seldon's level though - beating up an old fat overrated has-been.

    Tubbs schooled him though.
