yeah maybe very good was a bit of a stretch, I also thought Thomas Tate was underrated to an extent too
This is how I see it. Average alphabet champion who was in with Don King. Nothing more than that. Not even a top 100 ATG at middle.
I agree with the OP, I think he is an underrated fighter. For me, he proved to be a superior fighter to more high-profile/hyped guys from his era such as Jeff Lacy. His performance to take Richie Woodhall's zero was excellent IMO, and he has some other quality wins (TKO7 Cherifi, TKO9 Quincy Taylor, TKO11 McCracken, 2 wins over Andrew Council).
Somewhat...not heaps. He is an underrated win for Nard @ 160, just cause no one really rates him..he was ok..a little better than Joppy.
I agree with that, his prime run was pretty good before he ran into 1 of the best versions of Hopkins. And even then he took away Hopkins outside game with his rangy accurate jab (and it was VERY RANGY too), BHOPs had to make it an inside mauling fight, something Holmes didn't have the tools to deal with. He seem to fall into the exxcellent outside, terrible inside category Holmes certainly shouldn't be mistaken for an upper echelon MW, but he is a top contender, would be in most eras and a good belt holder Yea that's pretty much how I see it. Still when people hype contenders of other eras, the likes of Holmes/Joppy get negated, they'd be on par with the bottom top6 wins of Hagler/Monzon
