Think this will go back and forth with some great individual shots and quick returns. A late rally could just clench a decider.ld
I can confirm Rees is in the best shape he's been in in years, perhaps ever. I've seen him a few times in the gym over the past few weeks, and at the press call last Tuesday he was looking very lean and fit. Much credit to Gary Lockett, he's done a fantastic job with Gavin. Gavin also acknowledges he's cut corners in the past, and has rectified the bad training habits of the past. Can't knock him this time round. If Andy Murray were to win this, then it would be against a fully fit and prepared Gavin Rees.
I was thinking the same Gaz. Maybe before Lockett he did take liberties, but last time out he looked in the best shape of his career. As did Cleverly week before last. Did he do his S&C with Darren?
Doesn't stop fans chanting "There's only one Andy Murray" (no I wont give them the credit of doing it ironically) I think Rees is much better if he has anything left.
I'm really hoping Andy can do it. I'd give him a good chance, but he's still the underdog. Especially since his only chance of winning is on points really, and he's fighting away from home. If he's going to do it he's gotta keep Rees off him. Use his bigger stature to keep Rees at bay and win rounds by landing good clean shots from the outside. He doesn't really have a lot of KO power, but hopefully he has enough strength to do the job. He's got a good jab but he's gotta get that right hand following it. Big step up for him, Rees is quality at this level. There's no way of know if he'll rise to the occasion or get overrun.
This is my thinking. His only chance of winning is on points. He's fighting in Wales. Now unles Rees totally ****s up and is well below par I dont see how he can possibly lose (barring a freak KO)...Dont get me wrong, Murray will be competitive and most likely wont get blown out by Rees, but I see any close rounds going the way of Rees..
Ya, plus Rees style with his high work rate is well suited to winning rounds. Andy is really going to have to control 7 rounds clearly to get it. It's a mountain to climb, and if I was betting i'd put it on Rees UD like you said, but I'm still hoping, Andy's a good lad, it'd be great for him to win.
Do you mean did Clev or Gavin? If you mean Cleverly then yes, but if you mean Gavin then I don't think so. Gary Lockett's a very educated and clued up man himself on the nutrition/sports science type of things. I know Bradley Pryce lost a couple of weeks ago, but in terms of their training regime and physical conditioning, Gavin and Bradley are looking leaner and fitter than ever.
I dont really rate Rees but he keeps surprising me. Sounds like both fighters are in top shape and hungry - so no excuses there. Murray has always been a steady fight, jab-jab-drive the right home to the chest, regroup, start again. Nowt wrong with that up to a level. Rees is hit and miss but impressed me against Kotelnik, I thought he would have been overwhelmed a earlier. But he did well and has looked good recently. Murray's last outting against Higginson really dissapointed me. I really thought this was Murray's chance to shine, he didnt. Higginson is a nice guy but should have been fodder for Murray. He wasnt, and Higginson couldnt miss Murray at times. I spoke to him briefly afterwards but he seemed to think the performance was fine and that there wasnt problem. I was anticipating a long speil about "not getting up for it....felt sick....no sparring....hurt my hand" but no. Rees should be able to get in and about the more mechanical Murray and outwork him. Murray is going to have to be really aggressive with his jab to deter the terrier like Rees walking inside and throwing flurries to the body and left hook to the head as he comes back out. Murray needs to find hurtful uppercuts to make Rees think twice about what the Cavan fighter has to offer. Rees isnt a big puncher and I've never seen Murray in trouble so I think that Rees to win on points is really good value at Evens. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-jBfV7Tg1A[/ame]
