I know Corbett was considered by many to be a novice and going up out of his depth against Jackson, but was "The Black Prince" over the hill already ?
If so, by how much ?

I wouldnt say so. I dont claim to be an expert on Jackson but he couldnt have been too over the hill because he took care of a pretty good fighter in Slavin for the Commonwealth title a year later.

No. An ankle injury had disrupted his training pretty seriously though.

How about 7 years later, when he was an alcoholic and suffering from TB?:think

The fight report says noting about limited mobility for Jackson. Jackson was near his prime for this match.

Correct .. he was likely slightly past his best but still in his prime ... however, no doubt his injury effected his training and possible performance .. if Corbett suffered the injury you could be sure the fight would have been delayed ... Jackson was so thrilled to get the match there was no way he was going to postpone it for fear of losing the opportunity all together ...

    Really?

I thought he was in his prime. If he was past his past his prime, when do you say his prime was?

Oh, the sprained ankle or busted leg makes him pretty much "off form" if not "out of his prime".
It seems his leg was still visibly swollen for the fight, and one writer recollected years later that Corbett had danced around him while he stood still and pivoted on his one good foot - but maybe that's an embellishment.

    Nobody said otherwise.

He recieved an ankle injury a few weeks before his fight that disrupted his training, is what was said.

at worst he was in a type of state like pacquiao was last time out, getting a bit older and overextended in training but certainly not shot or anything like that.

I read they amputated the leg before the fight, but it was re-attached several years later.
