J.C.Chavez Vs Meldrik Taylor, explain the controversy

He was, people in worse condition than him have been allowed to continue.

 

You can see him asking are you ok? twice. Taylor is looking off somewehere. I think if Meldrick had responded and and the ref had asked him to hold up his guard then it could have gone on.

I think it could have gone on but with that set of circumstances its a fair call to make.

 

I watched the HBO Legendary Nights programme and apparently Taylor's trainer was distracting him.

It was a brave call and I think that it was the right one.

 

:good & the correct call, a fights over 3 minute rounds & just because the last 10 second lamp is blinking i don't see anything in the rules about not stopping a fight due that. Taylor was done, simple as, he looked away from the referee when asked if he was OK, he was'nt OK, he was still concussed & too let this fight continue would have cheated JCC out of his rightfull & incredible victory + it proberbly saved me from am almighty beating at the hands of the frenzied mexican fans as i was at this fight

To let Taylor continue when he dos'nt respond to the referee's questions "Are you OK" defies all comon sense & logic, there is absolutly no grounds for letting Taylor continue, he was beat fair & square & if blame is to be aportioned it's should go towards Taylors corner & in no way was the referee at fault in halting this contest regardless of time remaining.

It's just Taylors bad that he walked into a right hand sledge hammer with about 20 odd seconds left & then walked right into the one that decked him...FIGHT OVER:bbb

Anyone who has actually seen the fight also know, that whilst Meldrick was outpunching Chavez, it was JCC who was landing the harder shots.

Taylors face was mangled. Justified stoppage.

 

Fighters with the offensive prowess of Julio Cesar Chavez aren't common ;-) :good

 

Taylor had to have blood after the fight, one more punch and he could have been dead. Chavez really destroyed him again in the rematch, but much sooner!!!

 

Correct call IMO,Taylor had taken some serious punishment.

What I find more shocking is that he was sanctioned to fight until 2002 even though his speech was seriously slurred.

 

Some commissions just let them fight on and on.... Texas will let anyone fight so long as there's an opponent willing to face them.

Maybe with Taylor they knew that he'd just go ''underground'' and fight anyway so thought it best to keep an eye on him?

Anyone know how he's doing currently?

 

He realesed a autobigoraphy not too long ago and theres a few interviews on youtube. He suffers from slurred speach now though, in the hbo documentary about the Chavez fight, they hinted that he might have some brain demage.

Good stoppage. He gets asked twice to respond and doesn't.

Even if you say Steele should have been aware of the time remaining, looking at the 10 second light in the corner gives you potentially a 9 second margin of error and thats more than enough for Chavez to seriously hurt Taylor.

 

True, being asked twice is once more than most fighters get......

Also it's worth noting that he uses the ropes to get himself off the canvas and to stay upright. How do we know that at that particular moment he was actually capable of standing up unaided?

 

you can see Duva pop on the ring apron celebrating. i think Taylor thought the fight was over in terms of the round, so he just kept cool and chilled in the corner thinking he knew he had finished the marathon.

i go back and fourth on whether it was a good or bad decision. but i sort of drift into "it shoudlnt of been stopped, i have seen heavier knockdowns, i have seen faces more busted than that and i have seen fighters with less intention of continuing as Taylor did"
