Can we have more than 7 world champions by the end of this year??

    A few years back a big deal was made about Britain having 7 world champions.

    David Haye - WBC, WBA & RING Cruiserweight
    Enzo Macceranelli - WBO Cruiserweight
    Joe Calzaghe - WBO & RING Super Middleweight
    Ricky Hatton - RING Light Welterweight
    Junior Witter - WBC Light Welterweight
    Gavin Rees - WBA Light Welterwegiht
    Alex Arthur - WBO Super Featherweight

    Can we match that number or even beat it. We currently have 5 champions.

    David Haye, Nathen Cleverly, Carl Froch, Amir Khan, Ricky Burns.

    Cleverly & Burns won't face to many tough tests this year but Haye, Froch and Khan all have unification belts lined up where Haye & Froch will be underdogs.

    We have 2 fighters going for World titles next month which will make it 7 if Froch wins agaisnt Johnson. Both Matthew Macklin and Ryan Rhodes will be underdogs travelling abroard to fight for belts.

    Other fights that have a shot at a domestic title before the year is out would be Darren Barker, Kell Brook, the winner of John Murray vs Kevin Mitchell and possibly Rendall Munroe while Nicky Cook and Tony Bellew will get there shot at British belt holders.

    How many world champions do you think we will have at the end of 2011??

    Froch will not have his title by the end of the year and Haye will have retired win or lose. I see it being more like three british champions as the previous posters have said.

    froch will slog out a decision against johnson and then hand andre ward a boxing lesson at the end of the year and will be in line for a big fight against a bernard hopkins or lucian bute

    can see haye on the wrong side of a klitschko decision, something like 116-112 and booth spending the rest of the year bitching about it

    khan-judah promises to be a classic, would not be surprised for amir to be handed his second loss there

    cleverly wont be fighting anyone of note in 2011

    burns-cook should be a good tearup while it lasts, expect burns to finish the job off around 8-9

    neither macklin or rhodes stand a chance in their fights

    the winner of mitchell-murray will not be world champion by the end of 2011

    so to summarise.....froch, khan, cleverly, burns

    I also think 4. take haye out the 5 mentioned cant see anyone else winning at world level just yet.

    Froch, Cleverly, Khan and Haye will fight on. Wouldn't be super confident with Burns.

    Yep.

    Although next year Brook and Mitchell will probably win world titles.... 2013 We'll have so many British fighters in the mix for world titles (in many divisions) that we could top 7 boxers with world titles.

    But i also think that we will have a world champion from somewhere else one of the longshots amongst Barker Macklin Rhodes Brook Mitchell Murray Hatton?!

    Burns could be World Champion for 5 more years if he keeps defending in the same manner.
