Holmes or Foreman?

Two very different comebacks, whose comeback do you prefer? Not really whose was more successful but who do you prefer watching and just thoughts on them in general.

Been watching a lot of Holmes 90's efforts today, his ring generalship really impressed as always watching him. Biggest drawback with Holmes in the 90's was that his stamina could let him down, Foremans massive strength allowed him to more easily conserve energy. The George that fought Holyfield in 1992 was no joke, he was a real dangerous fighter. Shotgun like jab from both of them, who wins between the two around 1992 ;)?

Foreman wasn't THAT dangerous. He never proved he could beat an A level fighter on the scorecards. In fact, B level fighters had great success in outboxing him, and glass jaw Tommy Morrison won a wide decision.

Holmes, outpointed Ray Mercer...Mercer probably would have won every round had he faced Foreman.

Ray Mercer, for all of his very good attributes, wasn't much of a thinker and had holes in his game that could be exploited....he's made for Holmes just as much as Moorer was for Foreman imo.

Foreman-Mercer in 92 would have been a good one.

both were selective with whom they met since both were shrewd enough to know their limitations.

Holmes wanted lenox lewis AND george foreman.

george foreman called out Tyson but maybe he was bluffing. Holyfeild and moorer were way smaller than george, he wasnt calling out belt holders who were as big as him.

Seeing what Alex Stewart, Axel Schulz, and Tommy Morrison did to Foreman...I think Ray Mercer would have won a WIDE UD over Foreman. Foreman has no chance to outpoint Mercer, and is too old to knockout tough chinned Mercer.

Larry Holmes would beat Tommy Morrison by unanimous decision.

Lewis would have been making a big mistake in fighting Holmes. All wrong for him and he would have been made to look terrible.

I suspect Holmes would have been able to beat Foreman to the punch more often than not in 92 and get the decision.

Lewis would have easily beaten Foreman. Look what Tommy Morrison did to foreman, i watched that fight the other day. Foreman was easy to outbox.

I beg to differ. Foreman was dangerous at ALL times. He may have been slow but his power along with his newfound ability to pace himself made him a threat to virtually any fighter.

As far as who would when a fight between him and holmes in the 90's I would have to pick holmes. Holmes superior boxing skills, speed (what was left of it) and jab would see him to a unanimous decision win. Foreman would rock him a few times but holmes sturdy chin would take him through those anxious moments.

So dangerous that Tommy Morrison, Alex Stewart, Axel Schulz, Lou Saverage made him look average? Tyson knocked most of these men out in 1 round! LMAO

Old Foreman takes a lot of flak on this site, it seems. I agree with Leverage that George was dangerous most of the time. He was also persistent, resilient, and tough as hell. He had his bad nights....so did Holmes, Holyfield, Lewis, all other fighters. I think Larry would've edged him, but would not have been surprised to see Foreman win. George was seen as a true contender in those days, whereas I think the old Holmes was not, despite the Mercer fight and the title shots. And I don't think Holmes could have knocked the champ out flat like George did.

I'm a two-timing / jock-sniffing addict of both "Foreman & Holmes." Both men made succesful comebacks in reality, but Foreman's by far was more lucrative and appealing.... Still, regardless of the hoopla, both dude's are ATG fighters in history... WORD!

Loved both fighters' comebacks, watch those fights all the time. I must say that I am more partial to the Holmes comeback though. I still watch Holmes vs. Holyfield every couple of months.

My favorite Holmes 1990s fights are his wins over "Mercer & Ferguson" from 1992 and 1994.... I wish to hell I could find my 'Ferguson' tape, but I can't right now.... DAMMIT!

I still contend Holmes beat Mo Harris fair and square by a **** hair in 1997... The decision for Holmes was correct.... I have that fight, too...
