I would think that Floyd's style lends itself to beat Tunney by unanimous decision. Gene is not heavy-handed, and while he did beat a past-prime version of Dempsey twice, I believe Floyd is better technically than Dempsey. He is also better suited to fighting movers.

    What's your take?

    Tunney boxes his ears off.
By the way ,Tunney had 48 kos in 66 wins,he hit a bit harder than people imagine.

Most of those fights were not at heavyweight, though. One would assume an accumulation-puncher at light-heavyweight would be less effective on the championship stage at heavyweight, no?

Tunney box Patterson ears off? I don't think so. Tunney had great skills for his time, but Patterson's skills to me were more modernly developed(Higher hands, Tighter elbows, straighter punches using full body torque)..Patterson had some of the best technique and fundamentals of all time. I think Floyd has the edge in Combination Punching, Power, Speed..Tunney never faced a fighter with the Combination Punching/speed/power of a Prime Floyd Patterson.

Floyd would make tunney pay dearly for keeping his hands low, and tattoo fast combinations off Tunney's head all night. Tunney would win rounds with his excellent movement, intelligence, and sharp 1-2s. Floyds combination punching would be too much for Gene, Gene never saw anything like that before

    Patterson 15 dec Tunney

This is a tough fight, but I highly doubt Tunney "boxes his ears off". A prime patterson was never outboxed.

    .
Tunney kept his hands low because he could afford to, he had very fast feet.
In 77 fights he was floored only once ,by alltime great puncher Dempsey
Patterson was down 17 times and stopped 5 times in 64 fights.
    Who had the better chin?
    Who had the better defence?

He could afford to against smaller aging light-heavyweights/heavyweights like carpentier, gibbons, dempsey...but against a fighter his size with a tremendous jab, faster hands, amazing combination punching, and solid power...he would be in drastic trouble.

Tunney by a decision with a knockdown scored midway through the bout. He simply outboxes Floyd and has the chin to withstand whatever Floyd gets through.

It's pure speculation with regards to Tunney. Who did he ever fight at heavyweight but an old Dempsey ?

Patterson was a very talented but very flawed fighter but did fight much better men than Gene ..

I favor Gene by decision but would be interested to see the fight ... I think Gene was the much starter fighter. Floyd was the faster in ripping combinations on the inside but I feel Tunney was faster from the outside and would use his superior reach ( 5") , straight punching and movement to confuse Patterson ... In addition, Gene had the far better chin was was likely the better conditioned man ...

Patterson would look like a novice against Tunney.
I think Tunney KOs him late.
